Deluxe Building National Theater Project Moves Forward

Minister of Social and Urban Transformation Hon. Rawdon Turner today led a tour of the Deluxe Building redevelopment project, which is being transformed into Antigua and Barbuda’s future National Theater for the Creatives.

The tour included Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, Consultant with PMI and senior representatives from PMI, the primary grant funders supporting the initiative.

The purpose of the visit was to provide an update on the progress of the works, review construction timelines, and assess the project’s readiness for delivery.

The transformation of the historic Deluxe Building forms part of the Government’s wider urban renewal and cultural development agenda aimed at revitalizing St. John’s.

During the tour, stakeholders were updated on the ongoing structural and rehabilitation works taking place at the site. The completed National Theater is expected to serve as a modern venue for theatrical productions, musical performances, conferences, cultural showcases, and other major national events.

Representatives from PMI were also briefed on construction benchmarks and ongoing coordination efforts to ensure the project remains on schedule.

The redevelopment of the Deluxe Building continues to be viewed as a major component of the Government’s efforts to modernize public infrastructure, expand opportunities within the creative industries, and further transform the capital city.
