National Solid Waste Management Authority Addresses Smoke Concerns from Landfill Fire

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is addressing concerns from residents and establishments affected by the smoke emanating from the landfill due to a spontaneous fire that began on Sunday, June 9th, 2024.

The fire was caused by intense heat combined with methane produced from the breakdown of garbage.

Immediate actions were taken to control the fire, and efforts are currently underway to completely cover the affected areas with cover material (soil), however, this has been slowed over the past (3) three days due to heavy rainfall.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the community and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The health and safety of our residents and the environment are our top priorities.

We advise individuals in the affected areas to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid outdoor activities until the smoke has dissipated.

We will continue to provide updates on the situation as it progresses.

For more information or assistance, please contact the NSWMA at 562-1348.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

  1. This is very courteous and professional of Solid Waste Management of reaching out & apologizing to the public of the mishap!

Why aren’t the customers of Community First Credit Union not hearing anything official through platforms such as these portals concerning the inconvenience they are causing to those customers whose ATM cards have expired and have not been replaced for several months now?
