In a recent interview with J Truth, former United Progressive Party (UPP) politician Anthony Smith revealed that the business community has expressed strong support for The Honorable Richard Lewis as the potential leader of the country.

This sentiment emerged from a comprehensive national poll conducted to gauge the preferences and confidence levels of both the general public and the business sector.
“In case of an election, we wanted to conduct some polling, and they did a national poll. It was comprehensive, including the business community and the nation at large,” Smith explained during the interview.
Results from the poll indicated that the business community believes the economy is beginning to stabilize and grow again. “The business community felt as though things were getting steady and the economy was starting to grow again,” Smith noted.

However, this optimism did not extend to supporting The Honorable Jamal Pringle as the prime minister.
“The business community again came back hands down; they did not have any faith in putting Jamal Pringle as the prime minister of this country.”
The poll’s results also showed a general lack of confidence in Jamal Pringle’s leadership from the broader electorate.
“The country lost faith in The Honorable Jamal Pringle being the leader of this country,” Smith continued. Conversely, Richard Lewis emerged as the favored leader among respondents. “The Honorable Richard Lewis was seen as the person to lead the charge.”
Smith further mentioned that this preference for Lewis was not isolated to the general public but was also reflected within the political party itself.

Key party members and supporters, including Smith’s own family and friends, saw it as a valuable opportunity for a young leader to challenge for the top position.
“Some key players in the party, from my family who was supporting and friends, thought it was a good opportunity for me as a young person to challenge for the leadership.”
Despite the strong backing, Smith emphasized that political decisions should be made with the collective interest in mind, rather than self-interest. “Politics must never be about self-interest but always about the interest of the collective.”
Ultimately, the poll results and subsequent endorsements have shaped the party’s direction, leading to widespread support for Richard Lewis. “An endorsement letter came out that most persons were endorsing The Honorable Richard Lewis to go forward to the leadership.”
The party has acknowledged the importance of listening to the people’s demands for change, aiming to align its leadership choices with the public’s expectations.
“We within the party, we on the ground, would have stated to the executive and the leadership of the United Party that in order for the party to be taken seriously, we have to look at what the people are saying,” Smith concluded.

What go wrang ah night hardly come right ah day.
Old people lived by that proverb.
And so it is with the UPP. The chairman does not like Richard Lewis, so as far as she is concerned, he, like all the people in the party that ‘she nuh luv’, should not raise his head in his party. The one that she went and met him in.
As an intelligent and learned woman, she knew that a combination of the former political leader and young Lewis would have been awesome for the party.
The problem with that is this would not leave much space for her power lust to feed and grow.
So what did she do? She made sure that that never happen.
And the rest is history.
GISELE ISAAC is bigger than any poll.
Nobody trusts a traitor so we don’t need to hear from you. Go and speak to your comrades who are of similar minds. Very very dangerous person.
The political leader of the UPP and the leader of the opposition in parliament does not have to be the same person. The latter must enjoy the majority support of the elected members on the opposition side… no chairwoman, no chaku, no Lovel…no UPP delegates. It would appeared to me that the Hon Richard Lewis had the support of at least four members of the opposition side( including the Hon Smith before his moved). What happened inside Parliament is for elected members to decide not non-elected members or other outside party hacks.
Despite the short comings of our beloved Constitution The legislative and the Executive arms of Government are legally different even though the line of separation is blurred. Until the populace understands this difference we will continue to hear this argument questioning the independence of elected members.
The data is also showing that Giselle needs to go.
She’s one of the ” links in the chain ” that is causing the organization to fall apart.
ANR you have attached the wrong video to this article. This video is the same one as that attached to the other article talking about Pringle not improving himself. You have repeated the video.
Really appreciate you pointing this out.
Mr.Pringle might be DAFT and DUNCE, but he is LOYAL!!! The same cannot be said of the sly, cunning, double-minded, attention-starved, selfish PRICK married to the JAMAICAN that Gizelle can’t stand!!
Yes, I’ll admit I was disappointed that the Most Honourable Richard Lewis wasn’t appointed as opposition leader of the UPP; and I’m hoping and praying 🙏🏽 that this democratic vote ❎ doesn’t come back to haunt the party.
Richard Lewis had previously shown that he had the measure of Gaston ‘Look How He Fidget’ Browne.
The Prime Minister was visibly relieved when Richard was defeated by the Honourable Jamale Pringle.
However, Richard Lewis will eventually become UPP leader at some point in his career.
What poll? Conducted by whom? ALP will conduct a poll to prove what? You lie
Anthony Smith you lied your ass off to people who trusted you,why don’t you shut up and just go away?
You are food for carion, so tell the Labourites you tainted lies.
You are damaged goods and just dangerous. Keep talking. You must think you will be heard for your abundance of words.
We don’t need people like you in our politics.
I am a UPP supporter and a poll was conducted. Every thing you hear is not lie.
@Insider,who conducted this infamous poll? UPP needs a poll to select a leader? Then why have a convention? Everything coming from a traitor is always going to be spurious.
Would ALP conduct a poll to decide who is the better UPP leader?
Because you say you’re a UPP supporter lends credence to your claim? Please.
Anthony Smith lost his name, reputation and credibility when he sold out.
I also thought what @ Insider wrote was dubious @ Watching
Watching the poll was paid for by some in the business community. The results show Richard was seen as a better leader than Pringle. If it not true then some one in the UPP leadership can deny it.
@Insider,the business community paid for a poll? Why? How would a poll to decide who is the best leader of the opposition benefit “the business community?” Now you’re sending off warning signals.
These businesses love when ALP is in power. The Browne DAWG calls them “the apple cart.” Or have you forgotten?
Some of these”business community, “are allowed to hold onto our taxes, 50% worth of taxes,to be exact.
@Insider, please explain WHY these,” business community, ” was interested in PAYING for this poll? Please.
WATCHING the business community provide support to all parties. The business community needed to see which leader had the greatest support from the population. The poll was done for that purpose. What wrong with that.
Insider,I give up. You’re just going around in circles. First you alluded to UPP leadership defending your infamous poll now You’re asking what’s wrong with that. Answer my question.
Why would this,”business community ” care whether the population supported an opposition leader? How does that benefit them? You’re dogging all over the place. Makes me really wonder.
