“Nasty” singer in calypso semifinals

4
Queen Ivena

The journey of Queen Ivena to the 2017 Calypso Monarch is continuing and so are her legal troubles.

The judges decided that the singer and her controversial Nasty song are good enough to continue on to the calypso semi-finals.

Having been sued by Prime Minister Gaston Browne over some of the lyrics in her song and given the widespread interest it has generated; many observers were hoping that the momentum would have been enough and it was.

Queen Ivena will be hoping for better luck when she has her day in court and she’s ready for that fight too.

“There were no slanderous lines in the song whatsoever so we were not going o be frightened by anyone in authority…” she insists.

  1. Has she in fact been sued, or threats of a lawsuit made to her by PM Browne? Anyway, I think she has guts to continue with the song as is. Not many of us are that principled to fight to the end for what we believe or think is right…even if we think a decision will go against us.

  2. Great song. Lyrics are on point, composition on point, melody on point, social commentary on point, arrangement on point.

I am not one into calypso and all that mumble political stupidity but this song already has the Monarchy, if it does not, is because she has the flu on the night of the finals or some judge pocket long. And guess what?! if this song does not win, it will set the tone for the up coming elections due in 2 years time. So if the PM is angry about this song he better keep it to himself and grind his teeth privately.

He himself stated in public, at numerous venues, of his wife’s charity fund. the song is only using back his words. He also should note and realize that he accepted public office and the scrutiny, and the ridicules that came with it from the publics view. All the politicians. He should seek former PMs Lester, Baldwin and Vere’s advice before he puts his shoes in his mouth and make one hell of a political blunder for the upcoming general elections.
