Sources tell REAL News that the 37-year-old woman, Mohini Misna, and her five-year-old son, Shray Misna, were struck by a wave while on the bridge area of the popular tourist attraction.

Reportedly, the child had bent down to pick up something when the wave came up and struck them, resulting in the child, who was behind his mother, running towards her and grabbing hold of her leg.

Allegedly they then fell over into the treacherous water.

It is also alleged that the woman’s husband, Satwick Misna, 38, who was standing at a distance watching them, immediately ran towards
his family in an effort to help.

Reportedly, he lay on his stomach in order to reach his wife’s hand, as she cried out for help for herself and their son.

Reports say he tried in earnest to pull her to safety, but eventually lost his grip on
her hand, and she went under the water.

Misna then sought assistance from a couple who were guests at Verandah.

Allegedly being unable to swim, he then ran towards the bridge and jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue his family.

He reportedly had to be assisted from the water by the couple from Verandah, who allegedly performed CPR on him.

The Canadian family had gone to Devil’s Bridge at about 6 a.m. that day to take pictures of the sunrise. It was about 6:48 a.m. that the wife and son went onto the bridge and the tragedy occurred.

The child’s body was fished from the southern side of Devil’s Bridge through the efforts of the Fire Brigade Search and Rescue Team, the Police, and the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard.

The body reportedly bore no marks of violence.

His mother’s body was lying face down and was pulled from the waters by members of the Fire Brigade Rescue Team and the Police.

Her body showed signs of bruises on the right leg and right hand.

After the bodies were pronounced dead by the district doctor, at about 9:15 a.m. and 9:16 a.m., respectively, the coroner, Magistrate

Ngaio Emanuel, gave permission for them to be removed to Barnes Funeral Home.

The family had arrived in Antigua on November 23 and had been staying at the BNB Belfast Bay, in Seatons.

They were scheduled to leave Antigua at 4 p.m. on the day of the incident.

Plans are now in high gear to fly the mourning husband and father and the two bodies back to their native Canada as soon as possible.

Minister of Tourism Charles “Max” Fernandez says an assessment will be carried out in order to make the Devil’s Bridge area safer, not only for tourists, but for locals as well.

  1. There should be a sign forbidding people from standing on/crossing the bridge, both for their safety and to protect the natural formation from damage.

  2. I express my deepest sympathy to the husband and family 💐🕊️🙏🏾..Very tragic and heartbreaking…At the same time people need to use common sense cause I don’t understand why u would wanna walk close to the edge of Devil’s bridge and even worse you have an infant with you…I always believed there should be done form of barrier at that location.

  3. I’m confused …. Did he go in the water or not ??? It said he lay on his stomach and stretched out his hand to grab her .. if that’s the case why did he need CPR??? Is it to look good to show that he was ‘“injured too” to draw attention to himself as a victim ???

    • He had first attempted to pull her up by laying on his stomach but her hand slipped from his grasp. Then he jumped in dispute not being able to swim.

    • Satwik is my personal friend here in Canada. Our sons played together. We had sleepovers. We’re a family to each other. Mohini and Satwik and Shray are wonderful people and family.
Anyone who wants to suggest my friend is “suspicious” come find me. I’ll throw down. I won’t allow the keyboard warriors to talk about my family like that. Goofs.

  4. A barrier would destroy the natural element and aesthetics, some would even still bypass just to see…it’s sad that common sense doesn’t prevail at times. My condolences to the family.

  5. The place don’t need any barrier, people just need to exercise common sense, and that husband should be arrested and charged for murder. how can u have your wife and infant so close the edge at devil’s bridge, that’s pure negligence and I think he should bare the blame for what happened .

    • MAN-ON-THE-SEA: …ABSOLUTELY CORRECT
Well, ‘Man-On-THE-SEA:’ …ONE CRIME: ‘…You are absolutely Correct.’

That which was made and ‘SOLD’ to the ‘…GULLIBLE’ as an ‘…ACCIDENT,’ appeared really not to be so.

Even without ‘…Eyewitness Account,’ and there was ‘NONE,’ from a professional Law enforcement and criminal investigation perspective, there, is but ‘ONE’ and ‘ONE’ crime only- ‘…MURDER.’

You are ‘…On-The-Sea,’ you are swimming good.

  6. Such a tragedy. My sincere condolences to the grieving husband and extended family. There’s lost of attraction sites around the world that are dangerous, that tourists tend to venture. However systems are put in place, wherever possible, especially if it’s a tourist attraction.
I pray this happens before any other loss of life or injury. I remember helping my son with a school project, and googling information on Devils Bridge. Sadly the history or how the bridge was formed was no where listed in the information article, instead however the tragedy of events at the Bridge, in terms of loss of life of tourists were listed. Not good at all.
On another note, I am truly thankful for the clarity of this news report today. Showing transparency of the events that occurred. Just a few days prior the judgement passed against the grieving husband, was totally unnecessary. But hey if is one think we boast of in this country, is unpaid Sherlock Holmes / FBI agents

  7. This is the second incident this year where a tourist has died here by falling in the water.
I googled Devils bridge to see what it’s about, if you look at the hundreds of tourist reviews and photos posted, most of them are getting up close to the water, and quite a few are crossing the bridge. One tourist encourages others to go on a windy day to really appreciate the magnitude.
Safety measures need to be put in place. And signs clearly stating the dangers need to be posted. It wouldn’t hurt to place flotation devices on rope close by to throw in if someone else falls in.
Some of the comments here are unbelievable. Some are concerned with the tourism industry more than your tourists. Maybe it was negligence when parks authorities failed to take safety measures after the first accident that resulted in the drowning death of a tourist. The family is devastated and suffering an unimaginable loss.
