NAMCO To Get Involved In Offshore Sand Mining – PM

The stated-owned National Assets Management Company (NAMCO) is to get involved in offshore sand mining, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed.

He said the NAMCO will partner with another company to very soon.

“And very shortly, NAMCO that is partnering with Meridian, a company by the name of Blue Ocean, will be mining sand offshore,” the Browne minister said over the weekend.

Browne made the disclosure while speaking about the millions invested in Public Works.

“So technically, public works should be able to get a number of the inputs pretty cheap, the sand and the aggregate.”

The prime minister revealed that Public Works invested in equipment and machinery that will make it a bigger player in the construction sector.

“A lot of people may not know this but the public works department has its own concrete plant, produces its own aggregate because we had invested in a concrete plant and new crushers both for lime stone and volcanic stones. They also have concrete trucks, we bought concrete trucks too and more recently we bought a concrete block plant so Public Works very shortly will be producing its own blocks as well.”

He said the department will be playing a role to get the Willoughby Bay Project constructed at a reasonable cost.

  1. We need to get rid of Gaston Browne before he destroys the entire environment of Antigua & Barbuda. First, he allows Yida to dig up and entirely remove the mangroves at Crabbs and now he wants to destroy the sea bed by mining all of its sand. Gaston, do you not have any care for the environment at all? You need to go so we can bring in somebody who has a modicum of interest and caring for our environment.

  2. All Gaston seems to be interested in is investing. Antiguans want proper roads and infrastructure. Clean reliable water and electricity. The worst thing Antiguans did was to elect a so called banker who knows nothing about the real functions of government.

  3. A lot of people may not know this but………

Of course we don’t know if we are not told how our taxes are spent and to whom monies are invested with.
