Nakima Williams Showcases Local Products at The UK-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum

[St. John’s, Antigua] – Nakima Williams, a local entrepreneur from Antigua and Barbuda, attended the UK-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum held in London on November 28, 2023. The forum, a significant event in the trade calendar, was designed to connect investors with public and private entities to enhance opportunities for fruitful trade and investment partnerships.

Ms. Williams was chosen by the government of Antigua and Barbuda to exhibit her products at the forum, capitalising on her impressive track record as the consistent winner of Piango Fest (originally Mango Fest) from 2019 onwards, barring a two-year hiatus due to Covid. Piango Fest, celebrated for its emphasis on products made from locally grown pineapples and mangoes, has been a platform for Ms. Williams to showcase her unique and flavoursome products.

At the forum, Ms. Williams presented a range of locally made products, including peppers, jams, jellies, and chutneys crafted from tamarind, papaya, raspberry, mango, and the renowned Antigua Black Pineapple. Her secret, she claims, lies in the exceptional taste and flavour of these locally sourced ingredients.

For Nakima Williams, participating in this event marked a significant milestone. “Being here today means a great deal to me. I am immensely grateful to the government of Antigua and Barbuda for this incredible opportunity. This event has allowed me to meet potential investors and showcase my products, pushing me closer to my goal of reaching international markets,” she stated.

The Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister with responsibility for Agriculture, highlighted the government’s support for local entrepreneurs like Ms. Williams. “Nakima’s participation at this London-hosted event underscores our commitment to promoting and developing locally made products. This is an excellent opportunity for her to directly market her products to UK investors,” he remarked.

The UK-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum has set the stage for enhancing the potential for beneficial trade and investments, opening new avenues for Antigua and Barbuda’s local products in international markets.

The participation of Antigua and Barbuda was facilitated by Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner of Antigua and Barbuda, who played a crucial role in ensuring the country’s presence and representation at this significant forum. Ms Williams also engaged in a meeting organised by the High Commission with businessman Rudi Page to discuss potential distribution networks for her products and will meet Kike Oniwinde Ogoro, the award winning Founder and CEO of BYP Network, a multi-million pound company focused on advancing the careers of Black professionals around the world. Kike is also the Vic-Chair of the London Chamber of Commerce Black Business Association.
