The man who wants to be Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda said he will do whatever it takes to ensure that Canada resumes its visa-free access for the country.
Canada imposed visas on Antiguans and Barbudans in July.
Speaking at a United Progressive Party Vision Forum recently, leader Senator Harold Lovell said not only has the visa imposition been one of great inconvenience for residents but said it was as a result of “the wanton, crazy and reckless actions of the government.”
Lovell told the recent forum that “my first trip as prime minister is going to be to Canada.”
“We are immediately going to put in place whatever recommendations that are necessary, steps that need to be taken and whatever procedures need to be put in place. We are going to get back visa-free access to this country,” the UPP leader told cheering supporters.
He told them that the visa application process has been riddled with delays and is not as easy as the government has made it out to be.
“They say 14-days but I know there are people who are waiting 28 days to a month and still can’t get the visa,” Lovell said.
He described the visa imposition as “a curse brought on the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”

I think the infrastructure of the country should be the first to tackle once you regain the new government, then cost of living, getting crime under control for a small state, immigration our boarder security, etc… Canada can be last on the agender. Most of the people who are leaving Antigua to Canada are the non-nationals not Antiguan nationals.
I think he meant first international trip perhaps, not that he intends to jump on a plane the very next day, without first trying to address the local issues you’ve properly identified.
the first thing you should do is to make sure that the water situation never happened again u had us suffer for years without water running to our homes and you went into the election with this problem. ….we need to know what else is on the agenda to bring foreign investment into the country other that selling passports. ….all the higher education you guys got is really no use when the man on the street could give more plans than u. …..for me personally u guys are not ready to run this country, but because the alp is so corrupt u guys still stand a chance. .the alp ministers are concerned about building their pockets building office space to rent and then rent the government, Ms just came in to office and is trying to find ways to get rich these individuals are just sick but one day they will have the prison to talk with because one of the people they make them sweet heart deals with will talk
They mentioned two multi-million dollar investment projects, I believe. One I think was tourism related–can’t recall the other or the specifics.
What HAROLD needs to do is to wake up and smell the coffee. There’s no intelligent Antiguan alive who thinks this man deserves to represent us as PM anywhere in the world.
All of Antigua’s ills are a direct result of ten years of UPP dominance.
Water woes is because they did away with Tango & sold Sempcorp. Have you forgotten?
Investors? The UPP has them waiting in boats off shore. Another lie.
HAROLD, not in this lifetime me son. We know exactly what we would get with you’re gov & I’m not willing to risk my sanity and vote UPP AGAIN!
Linquist Report a way e day?
ALP done give out over 9000 passports since 2014. Not CIP I talking either. The non nationals are now nationals and Canada no want no mo Jamaican in deh country. You can forget about visa waiver. The EU is next.
You can travel to Canada all you want. Visa free access is never coming back. Don’t fool the people into believing it can.
Its b Cos of Jamaicans acquiring antiguan passport n went Canada abuse the ppl country and when they are arrested guess who’s passport they found….ANTIGUA……so Canada had to what’s necessary to protect itself from dem harden evil criminals…..
Who ended up paying the price ANTIGUANS….
But that shouldn’t be your priority…
Get ALL JAMAICANS OUT OF ANTIGUA
GET CRIME FOR SUCH A SMALL PLACE UNDER CONTROL…
IN THE JAMAICAN OBSERVER THIS WEEK IT WAS PRINTED SAYING 1500 MURDERS WERE COMMITTED THERE AND IN 1 PARISH ALONE…..WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF ANTIGUA RECORDED THE MOST MURDERS….
THIS EVIL IS NOW INFILTRATING ANTIGUA….
20 MURDERS THIS YR …Wa de he’ll could go so …since when we murdering each other in Antigua….
1 parish ….that has the population of the whole of antigua..
116 thousand ppl live in that parish …imagine that!!!
ONE PARISH!!!! ..ONE…out of 14 parishes ..
We use to hear abt a murder here n there not 20 in a yr ..that’s wayyyyyy too many…
Soon ….I guess we go need fe ask JAMAICANS can I come antigua…
I guess you will have to take that trip in Economy as a regular citizen since it is “highly unlikely” that you will ever become PM in this country. The ppl have not forgotten your track record as Finance minister and tourism minister. The Wadadli power can’t and the Can’t Park are testament to the legacy of you and your party. It’s too soon for y’all to wound this nation again. Your “friends” refuse to be “politically honest” with You, but I hope at least they will tell you if you have spinach in your teeth. The first problem with the UPP is that you are its leader.
Politicians nar let go Spanish, Jamaicans and Guyanese out a dis country yah easy, dem a secure dem vote. Dem no kay bout Antiguans. Dem foreign women a gee way pussy left right and center… Dem say Antigua women too farward. Marry wan Antiguan fooley man and rob out de poor ole man and dem….. aquire all their assests.
well Lovell I guess you won’ me making that trip after all. What an assing you got election day March 21. You are the problem, You are the reason the UPP failed. You are a REJECT!!
