3. When we had income tax, poor people did not pay it as there was a threshold of a few thousand dollars monthly below which no income tax was payable. This meant that poor people who earned less than that threshold monthly did not pay any income tax as their income was just too low for them to afford to pay income tax. However, every time they bought something, those same poor people paid ABST of 15%. Then came super inflation and prices skyrocketed and the 15% ABST collected by government went up as it was and still is calculated on the already super inflated prices. That hit everyone including poor people hard as ABST increases the already inflated prices by 15%. Now, Gaston wants to further increase high prices by adding another 2% to the ABST to raise it to 17%. This means that poor people will be hit even harder as they cannot escape the ABST. The only thing they can do is to not buy goods. The point here is that poor people were better off under the income tax regime as they paid no income tax and ABST was 15%. Now that income tax is removed, poor people are being taxed MORE under the increased 17% ABST. Poor people will be worse off with this 17% ABST than they were when there was income tax. Gaston will have effectively removed income tax for the wealthier and increased the tax burden on the very poorest people in our society by increasing ABST. How is that fair? How is that caring?

   • I agree with you that the ABST increase is wicked, however you are blowing smoke. If poor people didn’t pay income tax under UPP, but paid ABST, they have been in the same position under ABLP as they were under UPP. If any administration increased ABST, poor people would be affected the same way. Let’s stick to the issue at hand, which is the 2% increase, because for poor people income tax was never an issue and still isn’t. Unless you are trying to make a case for rich people, your statement doesn’t make sense. The government needs to audit businesses that are taking advantage of inflation by comparing the actual cost of imported good to the local selling prices. Maybe it would help for them to reassess the import duties and right-size them for the poor man.

5. What happened to the audit of Government vehicles? Cut the vehicles by half to only essential Government workers, fire police etc that damage vehicles daily and you will see a massive saving…on fuel as well. No more free school and church run vehicles.
