MP Richard Lewis Raises Concerns Over Sale of West Indies Oil Company Building to PM’s Son
In a recent radio interview, Member of Parliament Richard Lewis expressed serious concerns about the sale of a building owned by West Indies Oil Company to a company owned by the son of Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
Lewis highlighted several questions surrounding the transaction, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.
Lewis began by questioning how the property came into the possession of IF Antigua Incorporated, owned by Gaston Browne III.
He raised doubts about the approval of the transaction by West Indies Oil Company’s board of directors, which reportedly includes the Prime Minister’s wife, creating a potential conflict of interest.
The MP also questioned whether the sale was publicly advertised and if other potential buyers had the opportunity to participate in the bidding process.

He referenced past incidents of insider trading and suggested similarities in the handling of this transaction, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Regarding the significance of the property, Lewis mentioned its importance in potential development projects, noting that insider information could have influenced the sale.
He stressed the need for clarity on whether the Prime Minister’s wife recused herself from the process and what role Public Works played in the transaction.
Lewis highlighted concerns about nepotism and the perception that the Prime Minister’s family may have benefited unfairly from the sale.
He called on West Indies Oil Company’s management and board of directors to provide answers to the public regarding the circumstances of the sale and the roles played by all parties involved.
The MP concluded by urging transparency and accountability in such transactions, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that public assets are managed in the best interests of Antigua and Barbuda’s citizens.
The Prime Minister’s office has not yet responded to these allegations, but this development has sparked public debate and calls for further investigation into the matter.

I do hope the same emphasis and concerns about public assets will RESURRECT the 100 million $ Chinese power plant with wine flowing on the floor..the IHI matter..the road..sidewalk and fencing scandal….the Yascoa can’t done $500,000 bath and changing room….the 3 miiion$ forged signature at Customs…etc
The Public deserves to know…let’s talk transparency and accountability…
Antigua is indeed a strange place…where we change right to wrong and wrong to right with political wind of change..
RICHARD LEWIS you would not be elected again. You are sk DAMN jealous of the PM. . Go and study your CORRUPTION UPP.
@ PETE
THATS ALL U GUYS CAN COME UP WITH BOUT JEALOUS?
PEOPLE DON’T GET JEALOUS OF PEOPLE STEALING PUBLIC PROPERTY.
IF GEORGE WALTER COULD GO TO JAIL FOR SELLING A STEEL FRAME, THEN THIS WARRANTS LIFE IN PRISONMENT FOR THE PM AND HIS SON AND ACCOMPLICES.
That’s false hope. Period!
Why?
Antigua and Barbuda do not have the laws and apparatus to combat and address malfeasance in Government. is there government enforcement. So your items remain scandals.
Who are the Inspector Generals?
Is there a Department of Investigation (DOI) who gets anonymous tips as well as actively look for clues to investigate and present their finding to the DP.
The DP role is to prosecute by law not to investigate. The police are not trained or authorized.
The GOAB systems and practices are futile grounds for curuptive activities which serves the political doctrines we call democracy.
Dog catchers want to be elected to Parliament.
Where are the political scientists to craft updated regulations?
The degreed groups wear their degree on their chests hoping for their turn before the spigot gets turned off.
It will not be turned off anytime soon.
See politics in Antigua and Barbuda and most of the Caribbean is approach politics like a startup small business. You may get some funders and or sponsors who expect a return on their investment of 5X.
If you get elected, it’s like the break even moment. Beyond breakeven the politicians job is to be profitable and produce the expected return to his or her seed investors.
Of course there are few exceptions. Antigua has not produced any exceptions as yet.
After doing his usual attack and deflect; it’s interesting how PM Gaston Browne has gone silent.
What does that mean?
Is he gathering the facts to answer interview, Member of Parliament Richard Lewis questions or is in hiding on The WIOC, IF, and DCA transactions.
Or does PM Browne and his team need more time for “Opposition Research” while a new leader seems to be the horizon knocking on their door with:
Issuing proposals that address much needed national policy changes.
Advocating for improvement in education.
Questioning the Prime Minister on transaction that appears to be self dealing.
Attack degrade and deflect, then go silent will not be working any longer
Answer the questions Mister PM
@ Winston Southwell
ANSWER THE DAM QUESTIONS??? WE WAITING.
MINIONS PLEASE HELP HIM OUT: THE GILES, THE JP, THE ERIC THE REDS, PAM ETC (one and the same person).
@Dexter Pelle,
Antiguans are of two minds. The most serious issues are limited to 7 days them they forget about them and move on.
When politicians commit crimes, they are quickly swept under the rug in seven days. If it seems not to be the issue isn’t dying in seven days then the “How Come you didn’t in the past”
Two wrongs don’t make a right. This one with the WIOC selling to Gaston’s son need to be investigated.
@Barbuda J’aime…but only the WIOC property sale need investigated….and the $100,000,000.00 WPP Chinese power plant that never produce a KW of electricity doesn’t warrant an investigation… ? That’s what’s wrong with us. That’s why politicians will always be corrupt…we make them Gods…untouchable by the legal system…Poor George, all he wanted was Baygon..too much mosquitoes up there.

There are many things good about this country, and many things bad about it.
Individuals with mental health issues like you are a detriment to society
He and he son want to buy out every business in Antigua.Greedy and grapping all they can.I hope that they are securing their Soul Salvation that is what counts.
@Dexter Pelle,
All acts of malfeasance needs to be investigated.
Within the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the only authority to investigate the appearance of illegality in Government is through the police who services at the pleasure of the Prime Minister event hight that is not to be the case.
GOAB Ministries and Statuary bodies should each have an Inspector General Office.
The GOAB should have a Departnent of Investigation separate from the AG and the Dept of Legal Affairs. Something like the FBI and Scotland Yard that conducts routine investigations of any appearance of impropriety.
These are persons originally trained as lawyers and senior detectives with specialized training in investigating and prosecuting of crimes against the people. (The tax payers)
Currently the Governor General has to sign off on Special Inquiries. that’s the only way to get independent investigation done.
Then it goes to the DP (another political animal) who sits on the Special Inquiry Report
Anthony Armstrong was compromised soon after he got to Antigua and the Linquist report was scraped.
It’s a f’up system that protects the apolitical class. Corruption will thrive and survive in Antigua and Barbuda until Civil Society puts a stop to
it.
* protects the political class
I agree with the MP on this matter. Gaston appears to be very greedy. I do not like this at all. I remember there was the same incident where the PM’s son owned land at Longbay. If there were inside trading, for the first time in my almost 60 years of life, I would call for my party leader to resign. I cannot uphold this. This is not fair.
