MP Lewis Condemns PM’s Failure to Act Before Demolition
of Locally Owned Beach Bar
I emphatically condemn Gaston Browne’s failure to act in the interest of Mr. Peter Kelsick, before the demolition of his longstanding beach bar at Halcyon Cove.
Mr. Kelsick’s bar had been in continuous operation for decades, making a valuable contribution to our tourism product.
Commonsense would dictate that Gaston Browne should have withheld the authorisation for the demolition of Mr. Kelsick’s property until all reasonable efforts at negotiation, finding alternative approaches, or securing fair compensation were exhausted.
This is yet another instance where the Prime Minister has displayed his complete lack of concern for the plight of local entrepreneurs, at a time when unemployment and crime are steadily rising.
Now that the damage has been done, I call on the Prime Minister to immediately engage Mr. Kelsick and the property developer, and work to secure a fair compensation payment for the demolished property.

Well, at least Richard Lewis, MP is staying out front, on the issues which affected certain things in the Nation, negatively for some and positively for others.
Personally, if I was in KELSICK’S position, and saw the writing on the wall; re, demolition, I would’ve stayed in that property, dig a bunker in the sand under the bar, hunker down and go on a HUNGER STRIKE.
The INTERNATIONAL PRESS which the ROYALTAN BRAND would be receiving could make customers think about visiting or staying at their resorts and no marketing department of any company wants this kind of publicity.
Since, we’re on the TOPIC of HOTELS, the Hotel Industry, the PEOPLE and the right(s), of all involved, it’s time to form other NGO’s, similar to the Hotel Association.
Just line the Nation has had an increase, in the amount of UNIONS which represent workers and their rights, at lease when they put forth the effort(s), there MUST be other agencies which, as a UNIT speak up and stand up for the small businesses in the Hospitality/Tourism Industry.
Antigua Hotel Association is antiquated and outdated, to meet the needs of the small and smaller businesses in the hotel industry.

Have you ever been to this establishment?? I’d like to know what was an eyesore? It was always well kept! Please help me understand how you would rather have a concrete building on our beaches then small mom and pops.
Nothing about this is ok.. and if it was it wouldn’t have been done in the middle of the night #1 and #2 no part of his structure was blocking any view.
Make this make sense what they did is just sickening.
Do yourself a favor and Google the establishment and see how well kept the cardboard box as (Gaston) says looked and all the great reviews and business it brought to Dickenson bay …
