St. Mary’s South MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon has shown no remorse for skipping a parliamentary session to attend Trinidad Carnival, according to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who criticized the MP’s attitude and lack of engagement.
“When he was challenged by several individuals, he literally said to them, ‘to hell with Parliament,’” Browne stated.
The Prime Minister also pointed out Simon’s dismissive attitude toward those who questioned his absence.
“I saw a post on Facebook, and I’m paraphrasing, in which he was asking us if we’re jealous, if we wanted him to take us to Trinidad too,” Browne said.
Browne noted that MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon had not debated a single budget since taking office and that his parliamentary contributions were minimal. “Between himself and Serpent, in the two-year period, they have not—I’m not exaggerating—they have not spoken for more than ten minutes with all the speeches consolidated. Not ten minutes,” Browne said.
Senator Lamine Newton also weighed in, stating that Simon had ignored key opportunities to challenge the government. “This is something that they could run with. There are so many avenues they could challenge government, but instead, Shugy decided he would not,” Newton said.
Browne further criticized Simon’s approach to his parliamentary duties, emphasizing the salary he continues to receive. “Even if they don’t show up in Parliament, they get that money in their account every month—over 8,000 a month,” Browne said.
The controversy comes amid Simon’s request for concessionary land, a move that Browne found concerning given his lack of participation in Parliament. “I want to know if someone with such a dismal performance is really deserving of such a concession,” Browne said.
As scrutiny over his actions grows, Simon’s dismissal of the concerns raised and his parliamentary record remain in question.

SHUGY should be fired from parliament. He is the LAZIEST politician that graced the halls of our Parliament. He does not understand the rules of Parliament , never presented a bill, never discussed a bill and does know the difference between a BILL and RESOLUTION. SHUGY is USELESS. Just collecting a paycheque.
There is NO WAY St. Mary’s South will vote for this Guy again.

Right is right and wrong is wrong. The responsibility of the MP is to represent the people, how can u do such is u r always somewhere partying when it’s time to represent. Shameful, abominable, inexcusable
He posted on Facebook “NEXT TIME I WILL BRING THEM WITH ME” referring to the people speaking out against his lewd conduct.
ANR, based on the photo you’ve selected to use for your news articles on this subject, asssuming they are recent, it would appear that the member of parliament hits the gym quite frequently and that is commendable as we speak about Chronic non-communibale diseases. However, as fit as Shugy Boogy Woogy is for the road, he is unfit for the hallowed halls of parliament. It is unprecedented in this pre and post independence history of Antigua an elected member of parliament would scudd an important sitting of the legislature to attend Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago. Perhaps the most concerning thing about this is the support he has received for persons on facebook who, dazzled by the 6-pack, beleive that Shugy does not have a case to answer. I have seen some of these persons begging for better leadership but i guess that only applies to one side of the house and not the other. Shugy is as green as they get when it comes to politics and that is showing. He has less than two years in the house, making demands of cheap land while at the same time booking flights to every Carnival and diaspora carnival that this $8000 salary can take him. Donna said it right, were wring to organise parliament that clashed with Trinidad carnival.
I will be the first to call for Shuggy to apologize to his constituents if Sir Robin makes a contribution of five minutes or more to a debate on any bill. Until then all Shuggy has to do is to go out in his constituency, meet his constituents and whenever he is parliament agigitate on their behalf. Who gives laboRATs the moral and testicular fortitude to question the operations of UPP pelarliamentarians?? A laboRAT is anyone with no shame. Those idiots are now becoming so transparent. Gaston has left the island so so many times with Pixie as a wife and not a minister nor parliamentarian. That in my opinion is a holiday. That is abuse and wastage of government tax dollars. Shuggy spent his own money. Let all the laboRATs who have a problem with that go up to Shirley’s Heights, get in a bag, ask someone to tie the top and then roll down the precipice.
Sir Robin has already made close to 50 YEARS of contribution and REPRESENTATION in the Parliament and in his constituency!!!
