Antigua Opposition MP Algernon Serpent Watts Joins Environmental Leaders for U.S. Climate Smart Agriculture Program

Ambassador Nyhus recently convened with environmental and agricultural leaders from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, and Saint Kitts and Nevis as they prepare for a special International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) focused on Climate Smart Agriculture in the United States this June.

Among the notable attendees was Algernon Serpent Watts, an Opposition Member of Parliament from Antigua and Barbuda, who is known for his strong stance on environmental issues.

The IVLP, a program launched in 1940, aims to foster mutual understanding between the United States and other nations by facilitating professional visits for foreign leaders. T

his initiative, part of the broader #PACC2030 framework, underscores the United States’ commitment to advancing sustainability in the region through global collaboration.

With over 4,500 participants annually, the IVLP enables emerging leaders to meet their U.S. counterparts, offering a unique platform to explore American culture, politics, and society.

This June’s program will focus on equipping Caribbean leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary for implementing Climate Smart Agriculture practices, a critical step towards a more sustainable future.

Through these exchanges, participants gain valuable insights into addressing global challenges and establish lasting connections that pave the way for collaborative solutions.

As Ambassador Nyhus highlighted, the IVLP is instrumental in fostering a greener future by empowering leaders to implement sustainable agricultural practices in their home countries.

Algernon Serpent Watts’ is the Antigua opposition spokesman on Agriculture and is also a farmer.

As the leaders gear up for this transformative program, the IVLP continues to strengthen ties and promote sustainability across the Eastern Caribbean, reaffirming the United States’ dedication to fostering global collaboration for a greener future.
