The mother of a 12 year-old girl and the staff of a secondary school are reportedly upset that the Police have not yet acted on a report that allegedly involves a senior officer.
A source tells REAL News that, since Wednesday, June 16, the parent made the report that an adult male was preying on her daughter.
However, since the preliminary investigation identified the man involved as a senior police officer, nothing further has been done, the source alleges.
Reportedly, staff at the school intercepted an inappropriate WhatsApp conversation between the young girl and the then unknown male: The man is said to have made arrangements with the child to pick her up after school and take her to his house.
Reports say the cell phone was confiscated and the girl’s mother called to the school.
On reading the messages, the mother took possession of the phone, collected her child, and made a report to the St John’s Police Station.
The source tells REAL News that the Police then made contact with the person who was sending the messages — and discovered he is one of their own: an officer of senior rank.
It is alleged that the officer who took the mother’s report kept the phone and sent the woman home, not knowing how to handle the situation.
The source could not confirm whether the matter was escalated to the upper levels of the Police administration.
Reportedly, the distressed mother – who is acquainted with the senior officer – is hoping for disciplinary action, if not criminal prosecution, to be taken against him, since he frequents an area near the child’s home.
It was only two weeks ago that another veteran officer, attached to the Fire Department, was arrested and charged with larceny connected to the XPZ Supermarket fire and with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The officer took the phone and did not know how to handle the situation???? Really! This is a 13 yr old girl! Arrest the sob, and give him 1 hr with her father. So he is high up popo, who cares, this is a child, only in Antigua

The police need an overhaul asap. It’s so shameful, especially for the other officers who are staying true to their roles. It is sad that the bad has to outshine the good.

More testing and evaluation of perspective police officers should be done, they already make more than teachers with higher education levels than them. Stop letting highschool rejects into the force.

Hmmmm, What a mistake to leave the phone with the officer at the station, what’s going to become of that evidence. It should have been shown to a lawyer first. Hope copies were made. Can we trust that attempts wont be made to discard the evidence? Another high ranking officer, Wow!
Or the phone will just disappear. Don’t trust those officers. They lie bad. I know from experience.
When we have a failed system the civilians can be forced to take matters in their own hands.
