The mother of Jael Thomas told the High Court she found the 17-year-old faced down on the floor at her mother’s house with her eyes and mouth wide opened.
Vashti Cornwall is the first witness to testify at the murder trial of her mother, 70-year-old Millicent Cornwall-Roberts, who is accused of causing the death of the teenager.
Prosecutors allege that the accused beat the teenager to death in September of 2014.
The witness told the court her daughter lived with the accused in Mock Pond, All Saints, while she resided a 5-minute walk away in Burkes, All Saints.
Cornwall said on September 21 around 11 pm she got a call from her mother’s neighbor asking why Jael was out on the streets.
The woman says she walked over to the accused’s home and discovered the girl had snuck out through a bedroom window.
She says after not being able to get in contact with the girl she went back home and didn’t return to the house until the next morning after receiving a call from the accused.
