Mother fined $3K for severely beating her 3-year-old child

A mother was fined $3,000 in St. John’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday after she admitted to committing the offence of child endangerment.

It was revealed that sometime ago, the mother beat the child with a belt and spatula so severely that she was left with marks on her forehead, bottom, inner thighs.

The woman said she punished the child because the toddler was listening at the door to her bedroom while she was having sexual relations with her boyfriend.

The couple was jointly charged with the offence and the child was taken from the mother and placed in the care of an aunt.

The female defendant, represented by lawyer Kevon Benjamin, pleaded guilty to the offence yesterday but the man maintained his innocence.

The prosecution accepted the plea, and withdrew the charge against the man.

The defendant was told to pay the monies by September 30 or she would be incarcerated for eight months at Her Majesty’s Prison. (Newsco)

    Stop judging the woman under the circumstances I am sure she thought she was doing the right thing as she was thought. Perhaps next time she can wait until the child is sleeping and do her thing.

      What exactly are you saying? The child must get justice but we mustn’t judge the mother? You hear where this mother beat this child? Inner thighs? The friggin child is 3 years old!

      What if something fell on the child when the mother was busy? What if the child died. Sure let’s give the mother a break.

    • Are you serious? this is not judging anyone how can she think beating her 3 year old child with a spatula in her face leaving her with bruises and cuts between her legs the right thing to do….. i have a three year old daughter and trust she temps me all the time everyday but i would never beat her with a kitchen appliance or beat to the point of cuts and bruises… and then for what because you thought she was listening to you and your man have sex are u serious??? what does a 3 year old know about listening to some one have sex and why are you having sex leaving a 3 year old unattended it must be something why the three went to the door maybe they were making noise and the was curious to what all the noise was about or maybe she’s was just looking for her mom this is bringing tears to my eye’s am just sayin i wasn’t there… when am home with my three year old daughter she’s always behind of me if am outside washing i would tell her to stay inside and behave yourself and guess what before you know it she put on her shoes and come outside to where i am that’s just children and the fact that your finding an excuse for this person says volume this is awful no one is perfect but this shit is messed up i hope the child is safe and recovers cause nobody have a memory like a child…she was wrong point blank no dam excuse she shouldn’t be having sex with the child roaming around in the house in the first place and even if she live in a small house get someone u trust to watch the child or put the child to sleep no excuse for this abuse…. no excuse whatsoever!!!!!!

  5. I agree. What she did was wrong. She deserves punishment. The punishment should not be to make poor people more poor and the state richer.

    They are harming the mother and child even more.

    What about parental trading, mental help, or even assistance for the aunt for taking care of the child. Even a trust for the child would be more beneficial.

  6. Is this story real? There are more questions than answers.
    * How she knew the child was listening to what the slack couple was doing?
    * What training has the child received from her in general?
    * What/who were more important; the child or what she was doing?
    * Seems as if she needs training in child and adult care.
    * Some one asked the size of the Castle, yes.
    * Maybe the child needed attention.
    * She pleaded guilty but did she show any remorse?
    * She should have been fined $20,000 and two years confinement.
    * Will the boyfriend help her pay the fine?
    * If you can’t train children stay out of their way.
