More than 200 former Stanford employees write to PM about their money

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has been called upon to do more to resolve the near decade-long issue of outstanding payments to former Stanford employees.

In a letter endorsed by more than 200 ex-workers, they call on Browne and Attorney General Steadroy Cutie Benjamin to make the necessary interventions on their behalf.

Calling the issue “a very serious matter” the authors of the letter reminded Browne
that he heads a “labour” government.

They allege that the AG asked them to produce the necessary documents related to the matter “but never saw it fit to meet with aggrieved workers.”

“It is not too late Mr. Prime Minister and we are asking that you and the attorney
general convene a meeting with representatives of the Stanford ex-employees to
plot the way forward on this matter,” the letter added.

The former employees calls on the government to take a genuine interest in their concern and respond to them before the end of February.

Almost nine (9) years have elapsed while former employees of R. Allen Stanford
found themselves without employment and any payment for their services.

They allege in their letter that only a select few have received benefits “in
what appears to be gross negligence not to mention disrespect to members of
the country’s labour force by successive administrations to date.”

  1. What the Stanford workers should understand is that the government is not responsible for them to collect their severance. That is why you have lawyers and unions to go to. And when they sat by and let the UPP allowed the company to go into receivership, they should have stood up and tell the UPP that is not the correct thing to do. Those companies were not bankrupt. No of them. They had lien free assets of millions of dollars. That is why the receivers can sell all those assets without being challenged by anyone. The fact that the shareholder is in jail does not mean the company has to close down. Companies are run by boards. government could have established a board to run the affairs of the companies. But the inept UPP politicians and AG could not see the bigger picture and place it all in the hand of the court and receivers who are now the only ones enriching themselves.

  2. remember it was UPP who cause d what happened to Stanford to happen. yes the government can help. but don’t make it seem like it was caused by the current government

  3. Funny now election is here they making noise. Is only now they remember this. Stop using your plight as an election gimmick.

  4. God news I understand Checks are being shared at the Warehouse in Powels. So Stanford workers should now show their commitment to a PM that fought for their plight even though he didn’t needed to.

  5. Just learned further that the receiver still not paying the workers their entire severance. So they are determined to let these folks sweat it out. I think the PM or the AG should demand from the court to remove them as receivers. That’s the only language they will understand

  6. It seems like if only SDC workers alone getting paid. What happen to the rest of us. SUN PRINTING staff members are yet to receive one cent of their severance. What are we ghost workers? Sick and tired
