Ministry of Education Addresses Escalating Youth Violence: Calls for Comprehensive Intervention Plan

6

The Ministry of Education remains concerned about the escalating violence among young people in the education system.

Director Clare Browne highlights planned incidents, not random attacks, with forewarned messages via social media.

Identified risk factors include dysfunctional families, mental health issues, poor academic performance, and truancy.

Protective factors involve strong family support, positive peer relationships, education access, community involvement, mentorship, and mental health services.

Browne proposes a comprehensive intervention plan, emphasizing community collaboration, partnerships with law enforcement, and substance-free zones around schools and community centers.

  1. We know it takes all of the above to solve the problem.
Where is the action plan / strategic plan?

  2. Mr. Carter & his 2nd Chance Program in Point have being a #Model which should have being adopted, implemented, funded and enhanced decades ago!

Ask Gaston Browne, PM about Mr. Carter and his 2nd_Chance Program in City West.

    • I have just written about these incidents being planned and the opportunities for them happening can be decreased and I wrote that without seeing this. Wow. I know my stuff.

Please read my article coming out today on this platform

  3. I feel like social media and the music they listen to also plays a role. Children who don’t know any better would listen to different influential people and assume their behavior such as violence in the presence of conflict is how they should deal with scenarios in their own life. I’m not saying that parents should try and hide these influences from their children but more educate them as to how some of the actions displayed are wrong and how they could hamper their chances of a free and successful life in the long run. You can’t tell your children what music they should listen to but you can always instill good morals in them from a young age so when they hear music talking about drugs or violence they don’t take it as the correct way to live life.

  4. It is sad but true that some of these children are just like their parents. Many are being raised by single mothers who are not instilling values in them. Most of these children are coming from the ghettos where there is no positive behaviour coming from their friends and neighbours. Parents should be held accountable for the bad behaviour of their children.
I am begging Gaston not to let anymore ghetto minded people in Antigua. We have enough problems already.

    • #Ghetto is a state_of_mind, not a State of Being!
      Know what you’re Saying!
