The Ministry of Education has enhanced security measures at schools following incidents at two secondary institutions.
Director of Education, Clare Browne, stated that after allegations of a student at Clare Hall Secondary possessing a gun, the ministry implemented stricter protocols, including the use of hand-held metal detectors and security checks at school entrances.
Additionally, Browne confirmed that fencing at Sir Novel Richards Academy has been completed following a violent incident involving students from a nearby institution.
The ministry is focusing on physical security, ensuring proper fencing, and deploying security guards during and after school hours, with several schools now having 24-hour security. Plans to install CCTV cameras are also under consideration.

It’s truly disheartening to see our schools come to this. As an alumnus of Clare Hall, it pains me to witness such drastic measures being implemented, like metal detectors and increased security. Education should be a safe haven for our youth, not a place fraught with fear and violence. While I understand the need for these steps following recent incidents, I can’t help but feel that it reflects a deeper societal issue. We need to address the root causes of these problems rather than just the symptoms. Let’s work together to create a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
You can say thank you for the hand held metal detectors from a particular guy who helps in his way.
Metal detectors in the schools and what is used to monitor their movements outside of the schools compounds? The culture is having a #Covid & The Mutants style epidemic.
