Turner Urged to Lead with Empathy and Innovation in New Role

Rawdon Turner has been sworn in as Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Social and Urban Transformation during a ceremony at Government House, where the Governor General called for leadership rooted in empathy, collaboration, and innovation.

Speaking at the event, Sir Rodney Williams highlighted the significant responsibilities of Turner’s new role, describing it as pivotal for addressing the needs of the nation’s most vulnerable populations and promoting sustainable urban development.

“Your success will depend on your ability to lead with empathy, to be responsive to the needs of all citizens, and to craft policies that bring lasting and positive change,” Sir Rodney said.

Turner, who recently secured victory in the St. Peter by-election, takes on a ministry tasked with fostering inclusive communities and ensuring opportunities for all citizens to thrive. The Governor General underlined the importance of collaboration with colleagues, civil society organisations, and the private sector to achieve these goals.

The new minister’s professional background as an architect and his previous experience as a senator and CEO of the National Housing and Urban Renewal Company were praised as valuable assets for the position.

Sir Rodney also acknowledged the challenges ahead, urging Turner to approach his responsibilities with “humility, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the greater good.”

The ceremony followed Turner’s resounding electoral victory in St. Peter, a seat left vacant after the death of former MP Asot Michael. Turner’s appointment signals the government’s commitment to addressing critical social and urban issues in the country.

The Governor General concluded by expressing hope that Turner’s tenure would be marked by progress, innovation, and a renewed sense of purpose for Antigua and Barbuda.

  1. It is nice to see our politicians showing their family in public light. In the past you hardly saw our politicians with their wife and children. Buit Gaston Browne has changed that look. Always parading with wife daughter and son. I wish many more of our politicians will follow that example. It speaks volume about who our leaders are. A good example for our young people. We need good role models. Especially when it comes to our politician. Many of them are like “Play Boys” thinking it is cool to have many women and children all over the place. We need to look at these things when electing our leaders. They are the face of our nation. Yes I know the Prime Minister in his younger years before politics have children with more then one woman. But he has never neglected them, or disowned them. Rawdon please stay on the right path as a young man youi will be tempted by many beauties, but remember young men and girls are looking up to you. Be a real man and stick with one wife at the time.

  2. The majority of people living in St Peter’s suffer from Stockholm Syndrome and will always vote ALP.
They only voted for Asot because of what he gave them, not because they love him.
