Minister Seeks To Explain Early Closure Of Some Businesses By The Police

Information Minister Melford Nicholas says regulations which led to police closing down bars early have been amended.

Nicholas told reporters modifications were made to paragraph 13 of regulations 5a of the Public Health Act that will allow businesses including bars, barbershops, salons and
gyms to remain open until 11pm.

Last week, the Cabinet extended curfew hours to 11 p.m but law-enforcement officers reportedly have been asking businesses to close at 9 p.m.

Nicholas said it was a misunderstanding as the Police should not be closing down any businesses during the stated hours.

He cautions, however, that business operators should close their doors in a timely manner to allow workers to get home before the curfew comes into effect.

He added that business, at their own discretion, may open between the hours of 5:00 am and 11:00 pm.

  1. Businesses should be closed early enough so people could be off the road by 11, not 12 and 1′ o clock. It’s best they forget about the damn stupid curfew, people still doing what they feel like.

  2. How long will it take for Antiguans to realize that your misleaders just DO NOT KNOW WHAT IN THE HECK THEY ARE DOING ? SHAAA…. are you people so stupid indeed ? Every day the regulations change or are amended because the misleaders do their job of misleading; all too well. They are so confused that they even deceive themselves.
I observe other nations in the Caribbean and they implement policies that are definite and clear cut. Not this constant back and forth….here and there and all over the Warri board as the misleaders in Antigua and Barbuda are doing. This alone is perfect confirmation that they DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING !
It is high time that you wake up, foolish Antiguans.
EMPHASIS: YOU WILL BE JUDGED THE SAME WAY AS THE POLITRICKIANS THAT YOU FOLLOW. EATING THE CRUMPS THAT THEY THROW FROM THEIR PLATES.
Yes….am talking to you. Whoever the cap fit will certainly wear it.
WORLD “CRYSIS”: END SOON COME !

  3. My concern is that the protocols are not strictly policed enough. I see too many shops letting people in without washing or sanitizing their hands. Some supermarkets like Oops on Old Parham Rd don’t even have soap or disinfectant for your hands. And they sure don’t police anyone coming in without a mask. I believe shops like these need to be fined or closed for not adhering to the protocols set. This thing is much too serious for us to take changes. And we do not want to have to say we’re sorry. Prevention is much better than care.
