Minister of Sports Calls for VIP Treatment for DJ Chickie at T20 World Cup, Highlighting His Role in Revolutionizing Cricket Entertainment

Sports Minister Daryll Matthew called on Cricket West Indies to provide all-access accreditation to Antiguan DJ Nigel Baptiste, known as “Chickie,” for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

In Parliament, Matthew highlighted Baptiste’s contributions to evolving cricket entertainment from the early 90s, transforming it from “calypso cricket” to the globally popular “party cricket” atmosphere of T20 matches.

He praised Baptiste, who in 1997 became the first non-cricketer to win a Man of the Match award during a Test match in Antigua.

Matthew insisted that Baptiste’s pivotal role and long-standing contributions warrant full access to the stadium without purchasing a ticket.

  1. I am confused.. Did they not hire him to be the DJ?? What is really going on in Antigua. This man has been the driving force for the entertainment value and pure joy we experience when we go to a Cricket match in Antigua. Did they pull the rug from under his feet? SMH!!

  2. Why can’t the ABLP put Daryl Matthew’s in charge of the party? He seems to recognise the work and achievements of hardworking Antiguans; whereas Gaston Browne doesn’t.

Matthew’s is always supportive of the indigenous.

He seems a 100 times better than the Prime Minister … not difficult really.
