Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs, Hon. Samantha Marshall paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister, Sir Lester Bird as he lie in state in the Parliament building earlier today (Wed).
Speaking briefly with state media after viewing the outstanding statesman, Minister Marshall recalled that Sir Lester was very passionate about education and supported the Youth Skills Programme which played a major role in helping to take a lot of young people off the block and into the programme which taught them various skills.
She said that Sir Lester stood tall as a visionary and nothing stopped him from trying to make Antigua and Barbuda a better place.
While many thought it was her father-a former politician and also a good friend of Sir Lester, Minister Marshall revealed that it was Sir Lester who encouraged her and felt that she was a perfect candidate to enter into politics.
“I am here because of his persuasion,” Minister Marshall remarked.
She said that during his time, he was able to do a lot and laid a great foundation which helped our twin island state to develop to the level that it is today.
