Minister Notes Attempts To Abuse Food Program For The Poor

According to Social Transformation Minister, Samantha Marshall, some working members of the population are seeking to benefit from a food package program designed for the very poor.

Marshall is appealing to residents not to abuse the program.

“We have already have persons who are employed who are calling for assistance. Don’t abuse this program because the situation is our resources are limited and we do not know how long this is going to be for, but this is a program to really assist our poorest of poor or indigent those persons who have no income”, said Marshall.

The COVID-19 Emergency Food Assistance Programme will deliver food packages and prescription medication to “vulnerable populations” within the 24-hour curfew period that is currently in effect in Antigua & Barbuda.

“We have identified our elderly who live alone. Persons with disabilities and the unemployed single parents with children” , Marshall explained.

“This is just a temporary program, so to speak, to assist persons who may be home and don’t have anyone to go to the supermarket or may not have the income that they can really buy what they need to ensure that during the lockdown period or the state of emergency that they have items”, she said.

  1. Put antigua and Barbudan born and bred persons first. Too much non nationals sponging off the system and contributing nothing and benefiting.

  2. Thong in cheeks you are so dunce its not even funny how much non nationals work and contribute to the nation everyone who pay taxes should jus financial aid not no food for the poor like they are beggars
