Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister for Barbuda Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene, has urged the Barbuda Council to set aside tensions and work with central government for the island’s development.
Speaking on state media, Greene said cooperation between the Gaston Browne administration and the Council is essential to progress.
“The current posture of the Council is not sustainable and undermines development,” he said, stressing the need for dialogue through an already established joint committee, chaired by the Prime Minister.
Though the committee met once, a second planned meeting never occurred. Greene said attempts to reschedule have been ignored, and accused the Council of escalating hostilities.
Among the key unresolved issues are the government’s land ownership initiative, the PLH development project, and the expansion of Barbuda’s airport.
While many Barbudans remain committed to communal land ownership, the government is promoting freehold land access for all—including Barbudans, Antiguans, and others—as part of its broader development strategy.

But…. The constitution is clear on all counts. Barbuda Land is NOT for sale. The Airport Case is currently in court, as is the Adudication Case, and PLH & DLC, because the GOAB tried to ignore the laws. PLH is failed joke. WHO will invest in a project that promised what it can not give ‘title n Deed’. The game is up. Self enrichment has happened at the Antigua & Barbuda people’s expense.
If there was ever any doubt the Barbuda People rejected all these issues just a couple months ago, and at nearly every democratic vote before and since independence.
Is democracy dead ? Do Barbudans not Count ? Does the Constitution not Stand ? We are tired of the threats from central Government, we are tired of the ground fakings and Ponzi projects. We have a much better Plan. It’s called look after your own people, everyone, not just a rich few.
Educated Antiguans understand the constitution. People have woken up. Why can the Government not understand. Perhaps they need it re-explained by the APEX court …. Again !
Or perhaps Ibrahim Traore and the AES can point them in the right direction. End the extraction in favor of Self Determination!
It’s time we sit down like one family and sort this out. Too much division for too long.
Me tired ah the back and forth. Time fi peace and progress now.
Barbuda and Antigua one country, but we have to respect each other’s concerns too.
Barbuda has so much to offer economically. The people need to embrace change and empower themselves.
When R U tap give the land to every Tom, Dick and Harry and then we don’t have access to R we birth right
@wadad1 Can you mention 5 things that Barbuda can do to prove “much to offer economically”.
If Barbuda get 0 income from Central government from where they will get the funds to cover just the council’s payroll and staff associated.
Numbers don’t add up, Barbuda without investment can’t afford the expenses or new development that their actual government scheme have.
Barbuda people never work with these red scamps. Resist by all means necessary. The ALP only wants to divide Barbuda and sell it off to the foreigners. Barbuda for Barbudans.
