Honouring the Wisdom and Legacy of Our Eldest Citizens 2025
Antigua and Barbuda to Celebrate 9th Annual Centenarian Week June 7–13, 2025
The Community Development and Citizens’ Engagement Division under the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation proudly announces the 9th Annual Centenarian Week, which will be held from June 7 to 13, 2025.
This meaningful celebration recognises Antigua and Barbuda’s centenarians—remarkable individuals who have reached the milestone of 100 years and beyond—and honours their enduring contributions to our society.
Antigua and Barbuda currently boasts 11 living centenarians: eight women and three men. Eight of these respected elders reside locally, while three live abroad in the United Kingdom and the United States.
The oldest is Ms. Hermina Celestine Joseph from Jonas Road, who recently celebrated her 104th birthday. Their stories of perseverance, resilience, and community spirit continue to inspire all generations.
Upcoming Celebration Highlights:
● Saturday, June 7 – Day of Prayer (Saturday worshippers), official messages, and interviews
● Sunday, June 8 – Day of Prayer (Sunday worshippers), continued tributes and interviews
● Monday, June 9 – Media blitz featuring centenarian stories ● Tuesday, June 10 – Visitation and gift basket distribution ● Wednesday, June 11 – Continuation of gift distributions
● Thursday, June 12 – Volunteerism Day (Youth Ambassadors and Division officers)
● Friday, June 13 – Bake Sale Fundraiser supporting Centenarian Projects ($10)
Honour and Visibility
In recognition of their lifelong contributions, individual signboards will be erected in the communities where our centenarians reside, serving as daily reminders of their legacy. Billboards showcasing all centenarians will be prominently displayed across from the
YMCA and at the V.C. Bird International Airport, welcoming visitors to the island with stories of strength and longevity. Additionally, electronic billboards along Old Parham Road, All Saints Road, Friars Hill Road, and Market Street will celebrate these national treasures.
A Collective Tribute
The Community Development and Citizens’ Engagement Division remains committed to celebrating and supporting our centenarians through ongoing projects and programs. This year’s celebrations are made possible by the partnership and support of the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, the Office of the Governor General, local sponsors, community groups, and dedicated staff.
We invite all citizens to join in recognising the invaluable role these individuals play in our society. Their lives embody the spirit, history, and culture of Antigua and Barbuda—truly living legacies whose stories inspire hope and resilience.

Mi love dis initiative. We haffi celebrate di elders while dem still with us.
correct! no need to degrade them by calling them “RAG TAG” like Jackie Quinn did.
Giving flowers to our centenarians now is better than building statues later.
Antigua full a blessings when wi ha people living so long.
Mi proud of this nation for honouring our elders proper.
