For your information, Eric Williams left Oxford University in 1939 after he completed his PhD (from which we got his classic work CAPITALISM AND SLAVERY) and went to Howard University, your alma mater, as a Professor.

Smh my concern about Dr. Eric Williams is the lie that Michael Browne told about one of the Caribbean’s foremost scholar and intellectual. He should admit that he was talking nonsense when he said that Eric Williams could not get admissions into Howard University to do a double doctorate. When Eric went to Oxford they wanted to know if it was Latin they talk in Trinidad. Tell Michael Browne do not belittle Eric Williams to push up himself. That is simply my point.

According to the press release, it is NOT a PhD, but a Ed.D…..NOT a Doctorate of Philosophy but a Doctorate of Education. There is a difference. Nonethless, this is a great achievement and Michael Browne, Ed.D, is to be congratulated. My only question is WHICH UNIVERSITY granted the degree???? This is a simple question. KRISTI it was Howard University in Washington DC. If you were reading my comments closely you would have picked that up. PhD or Ed.D there is very little difference. He has a doctorate in Education. I also try to make the point so that people can understand that a JD (Juris Doctor ie the degree to become a lawyer in the USA) is not a doctorate. Just like you have MD (medical doctor, which is not a doctorate), a JD is the degree a lawyer in the USA gets. It is not a doctorate. MD, JD.
KRISTI for further clarification you can have a PhD in any subject. Yes PhD means doctor of philosophy but you can have it in economics, history, french, biology, anthropology, physics. Any subject. It is just that in Education they prefer the Ed.D designation.

I agree with almost everything you have said. However, it is for the electorate to deal with both Michael Browne and Gaston Browne for the lies that have been told in this matter. I have also argued that no Minister of Government should be allowed to be studying while serving as a public official. That is abo crazy and could not happen in any other country. A minister in Germany had to resign a few years ago because it was discovered that he was guilty of plagiarism in his doctoral thesis. A minister in St. Lucia had to resign a few years ago because it was discovered he did not have a PhD in economics. I can go on and give many examples. To state my position succinctly and clearly, the majority of the Antiguan electorate (citizenry) need to have their heads examined because too many of us put up with the pure nonsense and garbage from politicians and until we break this trend this country will remain the intellectual backwater that it is. It is for the electorate to deal with all the lies and mal governance that you talk about and clearly exist, particularly with the present ALP government.
Are you not a member of the electorate? You can do something instead of writing this middle of the road stuff. Had you spoken out given the points that the person who wrote you the letter did, then you would have shown more outrage as a member of the electorate.

Obviously you have not been reading my comments since I have expressed outrage and disbelief that as a society we sit back and say nothing and worse do nothing about such egregious wrongs like SHARE CHARITY scenario and a Minister of Government studying and leaving the State while being paid by the State.
