Maurice Merchant continues to serve as Chairman of the Antigua Barbuda Festivals Commission, Antigua News Room has learned.

Merchant reportedly resigned with immediate effect on August 9, 2017, days after the carnival celebrations.

Festivals minister Paul Chet Greene said then that “effective today, we are on the hunt for a new chairman. Maurice was due to leave last year but I was able to convince him not to do so but we have come to an agreement that he would leave at the end of carnival this year.”

Now ANR has been told that Merchant remains on the job and has not in fact resigned.

Merchant could not be reached for comment. He replaced Cliff Williams in November 2015 and has held the position ever since.

Since the minister announced the resignation of Merchant last year, no announcement was made about a replacement.
