Mentally ill man in viral video dies

18

A man severely beaten in an apparent case of vigilante justice earlier this month passed away at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center yesterday, confirmed by a source.

The unidentified man, who lost his left arm in the beating, had been under care at the hospital’s surgical department since the incident.

Initially expected to recover despite losing most of his left arm, rumors linked the attack to allegations of inappropriate behavior towards a schoolgirl, suggesting a need for improved psychiatric care for homeless and mentally ill residents.

  1. well honestly I terrified of the suitation how it went down he could a taken her an rape her honestly but I notice she herself was in the video fighting the man an laughing I believe all a them should be arrested.
what about the other one who has aids what the government doing about him

    • This is really a sad situation & a very dark day in Antigua & Barbuda….

Our laws need to severely deal with those persons who resort to vigilante justice especially towards the mentally ill….. This mentally challenged young man did not deserve such cruel act be done to him in spite of him been wrong to interfere with the young girl in manner in which he did.

The perpetrator of this act should be sentence to the GALLOWS immediately…. It is obvious that the chopping off of the young man’s arm was a premediated intent to do grievous body harm with no care of what the outcome will be of the young man’s future life.

These are the type of person’s we need off the streets. I do hope that the perpetrator realizes that KARMA has a nice way of returning…. Whoever that perpetrator is, may you find peace with God!!

    • So, did he die as a result of the beating?
Did he die as a result of the stab wounds?
Did he die due to the police not realizing he was injured badly before arresting him?
Did he die due to infection in his wounds?
Or did he die due to some other reason while at the hospital?

Before we judge and have the world to say, we need answers.

  2. Sorry for wat he did to the girl if some thing go so.
But all a them should be charge for his death.
    He is some one pickney.
I believe is the beating he get why he die.
    Jail them ass.

  3. All life is precious, all life equal. From the life of the Prime Minister to the life of a vagrant on the street of our capital. We are a country of laws, we have a justice system that exist to punish persons who run a fowl of the law….long gone are the days of barbarism….if not where does it end. Is ok for this man’s family to seek vengeance? We are at a very dark sad place in Antigua Barbuda. God help us all

    • While the [allegations] regarding both incidents should have being addressed better, in a civilised society; it’s not surprising. Both incidents will continue to rise, unless , serious attention void of the #Rum_Shop Melee is given to what is evident in Our culture, #badman vibes and #vigilante(street thuggery) vibes will continue to grow causing a steady progression towards, the slippery slope of anarchy!

When the #fentanyl/opioid epidemic rises up, and I hope, that the AUTHORITIES are paying attention to some of the WARNING SIGNS.
It will make the #crack_heads look like Wall Street Bankers.

Ain’t no #god[the Essence of Nature’s Ether] has nothing to do with what is transpiring, in the Nation. The examples are being set, have been set in place by HUEmanity for Centuries. So, explain where were the “gods” all this time? Keep waiting on these “gods,” and see when and if these vexing issues will be curtailed or even solved.
This “dark place,” of which you speak was already forecasted; since, its [energy] was already felt in Nature’s Ether, like winds of an impending #Category_6 Hurricane(🆘 – get prepared).

  4. If I react violently towards someone who has done wrong to my child or family and that person succumbs to the injuries I inflicted on them….Rubs chin….I am going to jail no if but or maybe…..Someone has to be arrested and charged for the man’s death or the justice system gonna look worse than it already does….

  7. I am brought to tears by this. I really hope that his death would not go in vain. Someone must be held accountable. His death is a reflection of how we treat those with mental illness and the homeless. Just hope that this would be a turning point in our attitude towards them. My heart pains me. This young man was human too.

  8. I know this young man, over the years have seen his mental situation decline, very quiet, hardly speaks, just keeps his fingers stuck in his ears. Such a sad end he met. I think it could have been dealt with differently, hope those who took part in his beating, feel satisfied now. I am not saying that if he did what is alleged, that he is right. It leaves me to wonder though, if the act was done by a SANE man if the treatment would have been the same. Just wondering 🤔 what yall think?

  9. Y’all are some bunch of hypocrite people. Y’all pass this man daily on the road never felt sorry for him. Now that he passed away where all the sadness coming from???? When he was on the road mentally loving a mental life y’all weren’t sorry and offered help? Aru sick mah tummock. Why y’all feel is the beating made him die? He wasn’t in coma that they beat him so severe.

  10. It was a sad moment for me when I heard of this young man’s passing. I’ve known him for years as an easy going young man with obvious mental health issues. On numerous occasions he would ask myself or my wife for money to buy something to eat and we would give him. I later got to understand that he was a classmate of my daughter. When I heard of the accusations made against him I didn’t believe it, and still don’t. I personally believe there’s some misunderstanding here, but I could be wrong. But for all the years I’ve known this young man, I have never seen him trouble anyone or heard anyone make accusations against him, until this unfortunate situation. However, be it what it was, and taking into consideration his mental condition, he didn’t deserve what was meted out to him. The people that did this to him is even more sick than he was. May God have mercy on us all and help us as a people.
