Medical school mum on monies owed to staff, students and statutory corporations

The University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) has not communicated to staff about the monies owed to them since news of the school’s financial troubles became public one week ago.
The staff members, who spoke to us on the usual condition of anonymity, said the owners and managers of the medical school have said nothing to them.
Meanwhile, they say their financial troubles are getting worse with no way to pay back monies borrowed to survive while they awaited payment from UHSA.
The monies owed in salaries and other expenses date back several months.
“If a storm comes our way, what are we, the broke employees of UHSA supposed to do, to be hurricane ready?” one worker asked.
“Workers with rent, mortgage, car payments, APUA, and other responsibilities, what are they supposed to do?” the UHSA employee added.
Meanwhile, at least one employee through her lawyer has sent a letter of complaint to the Labour Department.
The principals of the school have not responded to media questions about the status of payments and the future of the school.

  1. The chairman of the University will then go to church on Sunday and “worship God with a clear conscience” instead of paying the poor folks. The most sanctimonious person by all outward appearance, but her heart is now on full display for all to see its true colors. She can sell one of her vehicles and start paying people. Maybe all the money was spent on that wedding…..

    • @James Hague

Ask them about the turnover rate at their school. I will not be surprised if the school closes shortly. Debra is a dentist and Adedayo can easily find a job in IT. But what can those owed monies do?

You can sit comfortably, but some of us need our hard earned money.

    • Clearly, this person doesn’t have a basic grasp of the English language. Probably is one of the perpetrators of this scam. This “james” always is defending this institution in the comments on the news. I would’t be surprised if it is one of the owners, or one of the mascots they have in the administrative offices in Puerto Rico. This university has been involved in so many scandals..it is sad…
