The Medical Association of Antigua and Barbuda (MAAB) would like to extend condolences to the family of our very own Sir Dr. R. Alford Walwyn, KGN, MBBS, MRCOpath, colleague, and friend who recently died at the age of 97. Dr. R. Alford Walwyn was one of the founding members of the now renamed Medical Association of Antigua & Barbuda Inc. in the 1950s and served as President for several years.

We are grateful for his efforts and dedication to healthcare in Antigua and Barbuda serving the general public and the medical fraternity.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He touched so many lives throughout his career and lifetime.

  1. Condolences to his family, friends, and all those who mourn his passing. He was truly a pioneer of medicine in Antigua and Barbuda. A true trailblazer and man of immense honour, he loved the people of Antigua and Barbuda and did his part to make our lives so much better. I will never forget him and his generosity to those with whom he came into contact, especially the poor. He offered his services for free, and was one of the very first to have an arrangement with the government to provide glasses to the poor and indigent at no cost to the patient. RIP Doc. You are a true son of the soil and a giant of a man!

As a side note… The proper nomenclature is “Dr. Sir R. Alford Walwyn,” NOT “Sir Dr.. ” Sir or Dame” should always come immediately before the person’s given name, and professional titles come before the national honour.

  2. Condolences to the family. Cherish the memories.
