Matter of blocked road to Laurys Bay handed over to lawyer, Browne says, and no alternate access is under construction

REAL NEWS – Senator Alex Browne says the issue of public access to the beach at Laurys Bay has been placed in the hands of a lawyer.

About three weeks ago, Senator Browne recorded a video that exposed the fencing off of the commonly used access road.

This was done by an “investor” who purchased the property across which the access road ran.

As a result, persons no longer have access to the beach via this road, and the landowner has promised to complete another access road outside his property and leading to a different beach.

This was disclosed by the Development Control Authority (DCA); however, up to last week, Browne says, no such access road is nearing completion or even under construction.

The senator – who is the United Progressive Party’s caretaker for the St. Phillip’s North constituency – says he is prepared to do everything in his power to ensure that eastside residents have access to the beach.

He says he will not allow access to Laurys Bay to be completely blocked off, as has been done in other areas of the community due to the construction of hotel properties.
