Masked man exchanges gunfire with police after crashing car in Cassada Gardens; one of two alleged bandits now in custody

REAL NEWS: Police searching a Cassada Gardens neighbourhood for two masked men were fired upon on Tuesday night, May 23, but were unharmed.

According to reports, the Police received a complaint that two suspicious persons, dressed in hoodies and masks, had been seen loitering in the bushes behind a popular nightclub, and officers responded to the report shortly after midnight.

Based on information received, they observed a rented vehicle – a silver Toyota Fielder – traveling in a northerly direction and coming from the night spot. The officers came out of their vehicle and ordered the car to stop.

However, instead of complying, the driver reportedly accelerated and made a right turn. In doing so, he hit a parked vehicle and then crashed into a culvert on the side of the road, ending up in the gutter.

Reports say that two masked men exited the vehicle: one from the driver’s seat and the other from the front passenger seat.  It is alleged that the driver turned his weapon on the police, and the officers returned fire.

The man then ran in a western direction and the police lost sight of him.  However, reports say that a search was carried out in the area, and one of the bandits was found hiding in nearby bushes. The other was not found.

The crashed vehicle and the scene men were processed, and, reportedly, two masks and gloves, along with other items, were found in the car and taken to the station.  The vehicle was later taken to Police Headquarters for investigation purposes.

An abandoned building in the Cassada Gardens neighbourhood was also searched, and clothing believed to have been worn by the other assailant was found.

  1. Oh dear, again I’d better not say too much about the rising crime rate, because it’ll upset those FENKY FENKY and BUFU BUFU types who are in total denial, and still believe that everything in Antigua’s garden is rosey🌹🌹🌹

    SHHHH! 🤫

  2. Good job Officers. Hunt dem down. Shoot to kill. Hope when police kill them mothers who harbour dem dont bawl. When dem out dey ah kill and rob nobady ah sey nutten. SHOOT TO KILL ME SEY. DEM HAB WEAPAN.

  3. Police, when you all form fool I will certainly criticize but when you making strides I will commend. Keep up the pressure on them, you have my full support.
Now bang he rhass and get all the names of the rest.
I have a bull pistle if you need to borrow it.

    King James Version
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  5. I am concerned for the safety of our police officers. Yes, I want them to be more visible and surely go out at night to try to nip these crimes in the bud. But I think the police need more fire power and protective gear. And they need the support from the army as well. Any criminal that shoots on our police officer needs to be taken down with force. If they shoot with a gun, the police should shoot with a bomb. The police are the only ones to protect civil society from the raffish they can cause in our society. Antigua and Barbuda will not become like St. Lucia or Haiti for that matter. The good people of this country will stand up and fight. Evil will take no root in this country.
We need to hold the gun manufacturers accountable for the gun crimes in our countries. They must start putting things in place that will allow any gun only to be sold and purchase where they allow it to. And better yet the manufacture and distribution of ammunition. A gun without ammunition is harmless.

    • @Sideline, you’re just ridiculous! “Shoot with a bomb?” What are they using to shoot the bomb? You must be playing too many video games.

      • Don’t worry ’bout Sideline @ Nonsense. I also read the part about “shoot with a bomb” 💣

I didn’t know there was such a thing as a bomb gun?

        IS IT A NEW INVENTION?

I’ve mentioned it before, and I’ll say it again, the poor man is suffering the symptoms of Dunning-Kruger, where he really believes what he’s saying makes sense.

  6. Stop talking about St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Jamaica… Crime in Antigua is very high. The other countries have higher murder rate yes, but Antigua has a very high rate in sexual assault, including rape, break ins and burglaries. Stop being in denial, it’s been this way for years!.

  7. Look at yourself, it has not been that way . Antigua has always been a peaceful place, where people didn’t have to worry about their safety. It’s only during the last few years that a brazen rash of crime has started to become more frequent. I think police need to have a visible presence 24 7 to get a hold of this. They need to be patrolling the island with full visibility to deter these criminals. They seem to think they can get away with it.

    • Yarrow you came here two or three years ago? I speak from personal experience when my home which sits on a major main road had been burglarized countless times from around fifteen years ago, in the meantime a neighbour who was vendor bad been attacked in broad daylight on that same busy main road. Her home also had been burglarized.
Currently my home looks like I am expecting a hurricane every day of the year. All windowshave to be barred inside and out to deter the criminals.

  8. Where is the high economic growth manifesting it self when all these robberies are happening?
Are we saying that legal residents of Antigua are all fully employed? Then how come they have time to rob people?
Gaston, keep allowing all sorts of people in the country for votes with no background checks and see what happens to Antigua.

  9. Kudos to the police and thanks to persons who having seen something said something. It takes a combined effort. Keep up the good work.

  10. Great job 👍 officer’s keep it up big up your self officer’s stop talking down on the police they are working
