March 16 By-Election Set for St. Philip’s North

3

A by-election will be held March 16 in St. Philip’s North following the resignation of veteran parliamentarian Sir Robin Yearwood after 50 years in the House of Representatives.

The contest will pit the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s Randy Baltimore against the United Progressive Party’s Alex Browne in what is expected to be a closely watched race.

Sir Robin stepped down with immediate effect Wednesday, just hours after being honoured during a special sitting of Parliament marking five decades of uninterrupted service.

In a letter read in the House, he reflected on what he described as “exactly 50 years” in the Lower House, noting he had first taken office on Feb. 18, 1976, and had been returned to Parliament 11 times by voters in St. Philip’s North.

  1. The result of that by-election could see the explosion of the ALP.
Antiguans have suffered enough under the hands of the ALP.
This could be their answer to freedom.
A victory for the UPP would mean a search for a deputy speaker of parliament.
    Who would Gaston sacrifice?
Who would want to be sacrificed?
Then we would see how much the ministers love their roles.
Would Gaston continue his humiliation of Chet?
Certainly not Anthony “Babyface Judas” Smith.
Would he give Pixie what she wanted all along?
Let us not forget that she had requested to be made deputy speaker to afford her more time with her children.
    That didn’t please Gaston.
She would not have had the opportunity to oversee the $15 million PWD scandal.
Simply put, not one minister would want to be demoted.
Robin though frail and fragile after the elections didn’t want to take up the role of deputy speaker.
He wanted to have his ministry.
To appease him he was given several chairmanship of statutory boards.
So the search is on for a deputy speaker as much as the battle to keep the party together.
I call on the UPP to pull out every staker.
Every possible minute should be spent in St Phillips North.
Every possible help must be given to Alex Browne to ensure a victory
A defeat will be on Harold Lovell’s back.
Nothing but victory will do it for the UPP.
Victory would see a general elections in six months. Defeat would see Gaston scampering and trying to hold his government together for the rest of the term.
    UPP, now is the time!!!!!

  2. I am appealing to the people of the constituency do not be fooled by the glitz and glamor of the ABLP. You know they are going yo come with lots goodies to bamboozle you. Keep your head on Alex is the right choice. ABLP will be promising heaven on earth. DO NOT FALL FOR THE TRAP

  3. Antiguans be mindful that a cornered animal will fight to the last breath for its survival.
One tactic used by the cornered human especially those in politics is to release tyranny on the people to hold on to power at any cost.
Pay particular attention to the amount and types of guns/ammunitions which are circulating in the communities. We are now in the era of gangster, Possee, cartel, bandito, garrison style politics.
