The incident, near a health board parking lot, prompted police intervention at 5:30 am. Abbott, 34, handed an illegally possessed gun to Adrian Matthew, 39, by a derelict truck.

In court, Abbott’s defense cited intoxication as a factor, claiming he found the gun in a bar bathroom.

The magistrate discharged the ammunition charge for Matthew but fined him $3,500 for brief possession.

Abbott faced fines of $12,000 for gun possession and $15,000 for discharging.

The magistrate emphasized the danger of firing even into the air. Abbott’s family agreed to settle both fines by January 2.

  1. Sure a forensic trace is in order for all unlawful possession, even without the mitigating factor of discharging in a residential area. And the defense is spurious as too the state of his inebriation. He is lucky to have gotten a none custodial penalty- which should’ve been mandatory upon conviction. Yet, there must be a convenient pathway for citizens to show reasonable cause in the application and issuance of a firearm carry license for imminent self protection upon completion of a viable cognitive test of the applicant in compliance to all necessary, and all and applicable. conveyance of the citizen’s constitutional legislative rights attended in addison of natural right to protection and self preservation.

  2. Wow, only a 27,000.00 fine. If it was a common black man they would give he some jail. Plus you believe he find the gun in a bathroom. Different justice for them rich Abbott family.

    • It is much better for the state to collect the 27,000 than to put him in Jail. If he goes to jail, the state and tax payers will have to feed him. On the other hand, they can use the 27,000 to help feed those in prison.

  3. These ‘punks’ are not kids anymore. They are being brought up to think this kind of thing is ok. Not good.
