REAL NEWS: An alleged drowning incident – involving another visitor to the island – is being investigated. The incident, which is being described as tragic, is said to have occurred at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23.

Allegations are that Roy Vicich, a 64-year-old tourist from Alabama, USA, was at the pool bar of a local resort when he suddenly became unresponsive.

Reports say that efforts were quickly made to revive him.  But Vicich succumbed, despite attempts by CPR-trained personnel and the Emergency Medical Technicians who were summoned to the resort.

The visitor was pronounced dead by the district doctor, who arrived on the scene at 7:58 p.m.

His body was later removed to Barnes Funeral Home, while Coroner Joanne Walsh and a US Consulate representative in Antigua were informed of his sudden death.

It is alleged that the hotel’s doctor told the Police that Vicich suffered from hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease.  However, officers are investigating the circumstances that led to his death and a post-mortem examination will have to be carried out.

The matter was reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by a 911 operator.

Reports say that Vicich was vacationing here with his wife.

  1. The hotel is Sandals…why aren’t they mentioning it…the guy checked in on FB in Sandals days ago…tsk tsk do research

  2. Keke thanks for the confirmation.
Now if the man was sitting on a stool at a pool bar and he became unresponsive would that be considered drowning because he was in a pool?

Was he taking a swim and developed difficulties?

    Who discovered him?

Jeez where there is no information rumors become the facts.

  3. This is the reason I am reluctant to listen to news in this country, especially ABS. Why can they not just publish the facts? It is no fault of a hotel if a guest just collapses. Come on! People are dropping all over the world; on TV, the field of sports, hospitals, train stations, pilots in mid air, just everywhere. Is this the new norm? God help us!

  4. Condolences to the bereaved!

Investigators usually stay close to home, as in questioning family members first to determine the direction which “leads” may take them.
So, as my Columbo instincts kicks in…
We know people make #Bucket_Lists and more than likely, 5 STAR RESORTS with the ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGES on Antigua are a lure.
Can a bartender, or should a bartender stop a guest from drinking too much alcohol, as in refusing them, as is the case with.bars etc.(I know this law exists in America, and owners to bartenders can be held liable, for ones actions after, they’ve being served too much alcohol). I’m not saying this is the case with this incident, but as others are saying, the reporters MUST now take reporting to the #Next_Level. It’s imperative, since, your audience is demanding it.

Next up…are individuals using these getaways to comit a Jack Kevorkian?
Maybe, our local investigators need to bring in Insurance/fraud investigators.
Yes, I know, it’s harsh but investigators have to be always mindful as to “cause and motive.”

  5. Not a good way to end a vacay. With his co-morbidities I’d think it entirely possible that perhaps it was just a coronary event from the exertion of maneuvering against the water. I’d guess more will be known when the autopsy is complete.

@Ras Smood – I can’t speak for others but as we plan a trip to Antigua, we want to become acquainted with the people, we want to indulge in the little” hole in the wall” restaurants and the like…we want a feel for island life. Please don’t take it that I’m attacking your point, I’m merely sharing my “bucket list” I guess.

    • @Causyic Bastard…🤣🤣🤣Come On Down! You’re the next #Contestant on “The Price Is Right!
Now, you name is Caustic Bastard, correct?
With a name like that, I’m hoping that you won’t combust spontaneously, as you drop into those “hole’s in the wall,” where you’ll get the tastes, of authentic of #Island_Life.

Caution!! Be sure to have the Sour_Sop drink in hand, when handling Ms. Peggy_Mouth. She’s hot, wild, flavourful and juicy and will definitely leave a lasting memory(filled with pleasantries)on a Caustic Bastard like you.

BTW-attack my posts 👍🏾all you want. I’m never too old to learn, since, “Iron sharpens iron!”

Again condolences to the bereaved, but with all those co-morbidities, one would think, he would take heed, get a lounge chair or hammock under a gazebo and #Wusaaaah his time away.

Anyway have fun! Be safe! Be aware! Be cautious not “caustic” 😃.

Damn! Here I’m thinking, that I’m the only #Bastard left in this world.

  6. @ Ras – I’m pretty sure I can give you a run for your #bastard money 😉 love your thoughts! I was given the nom de plume by a newspaper editor whose opinions I disagreed with, the wife says I’m old and sour so it seemed appropriate.
You forgot to mention English Harbour Rum…that stuff get you in trouble 🙂
Indeen, condolences to the family of the gentleman that passed, well, at least his last images were one of a place that seems to be pretty close to heaven on earth.
    Hope we’ll chat again!
