A family member told Antigua Newsroom that Clairmont, a mason and steel bender by profession, came into contact with a nearby electrical cord as he worked on the Buckelys Government School on Thursday.

He was rushed to the hospital after the electrocution with serious burns about the body. The father of four continues to complain of severe pain about the body with burns to this arms, legs and back.

Days earlier, family members says APUA was alerted to the faulty electrical line but did not come to fix the problem until after their relative was injured.

They say had APUA responded in a timely manner the incident would have been averted.

The contractor on the project has given family member a commitment to  “take care” of the Clairmont who remains hospitalised in a stable but serious condition.

  1. Not just apua but also the DCA is at fault too … Them a get pay and not doing shit … This is all about friend and company in Antigua

  2. Hoping, that this person recovers fully from this ordeal.

On the other hand, I’ve noticed, the lack of adherence, to SAFETY standards and protocols, as they pertain to the Constructuon Industry, from the wearing of hard hats, safety goggles, frayed electrical power cords etc.

  3. There was no faulty power lines. The contractor constructed the building too close to the power lines. The workmen were handling a length of steel which came into contact with the power lines. Do not blame A.P.U.A.

    • Where was the Project Safety Inspector? This is a very sad story.Hope you have a speedy recovery.
@ELBURT: How could the Contractor Constructed the building too close to the power lines. Before you begin a project anywhere in Antigua and Barbuda. The drawings/plans should be approved by the DCA.Once that project begins. The DCA inspectors must visit that project on an ongoing basis. If they did not in this instance. They dropped the ball in my opinion.

  4. Governnent has no respect for DCA. Was any plan sent in to the DCA concerning Buckley’s school? That is the question which needs to be asked before calling DCA’s name.

  5. And if that was the case @Diamond, DCA has all authority to stop any project that was not approved by them (DCA). And don’t even ask if they knew that a school was being constructed because it was all over the news. If government (ministers) told them not to interfere then that’s another story.

  6. wow. Thank God you’re still alive man. One cannot be too careful when it comes to electricity on construction jobs.
    Wishing you a speedy recovery.
