Malcolm “Alvin” Charles and Residents Unite to Breathe New Life Into the Bethesda and Christian Basketball Sporting Complex After Its Almost 20-Year Hiatus

Bethesda and Christian Hill – The basketball court in Bethesda has been transformed, thanks to the united efforts of the Bethesda and Christian Hill community and the leadership of activist Malcolm “Alvin” Charles. Once neglected for nearly two decades, the court now shines with fresh paint, new rims, and sturdy backboards, symbolizing collaboration and community pride.

This revitalization, completed over several months by dedicated residents, has turned the court into more than a sporting facility—it’s a beacon of hope and possibility. Its impact is particularly profound for the area’s youth, who now have a safe space to develop their basketball skills, foster teamwork, and build healthy habits, all while staying out of trouble and creating lasting friendships.

Malcolm Charles expressed pride in the project, stating, “This is more than just a basketball court; it’s a space for dreams, growth, and unity. Our community has shown what can be achieved when we come together, and I hope this inspires others to take similar initiatives.” He revealed plans to bring similar projects to the neighboring communities of St. Philip, Freetown, Lyons, and Piccadilly.

The court’s renewal showcases the power of collective action, serving as a call to inspire other communities to reclaim neglected spaces and uplift their surroundings.

On 12th April, 2025, the Bethesda and Christian Hill residents will celebrate their success with a blessing by local ministers of the gospel, followed by a basketball tournament featuring teams from Freetown, St. Philip, Bethesda, and Christian Hill.

  1. Good guy but if chooses Gaston and ALP I know he is been forced because that is completely diametrically opposed to what Malcom stands for ideologically.
