UPP candidate Malaka Parker urges voters to punish government at the polls

St. John’s Rural North candidate Malaka Parker is urging voters not to be distracted by the prospect of another snap general election, saying the move is aimed at hiding government failures rather than serving the public interest.

In a political message, Parker argued that confusion, rushed timelines and political chaos should not be allowed to overshadow what she described as years of neglect and poor performance.

She called on voters to hold the government accountable at the ballot box, rejecting what she described as gimmicks and desperation.

Parker also linked her criticism to wider national concerns, pointing to strained international relations, tighter visa restrictions and policies she said place added pressure on ordinary citizens while protecting the political class.

According to Parker, the burden of rising costs, uncertainty and fewer opportunities is being carried by the public, while leadership decisions continue to undermine economic stability and the country’s credibility.

She said the coming election gives voters a chance to respond directly to what she characterized as reckless leadership and poor judgment, ending her message with a call for people to “pay at the polls.”
