Long-Running Jaycees Queen Show Launched On The Celebration Of International Women’s Day 2023
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Antigua on Wednesday, launched their long-running flagship project – Jaycees Queen Show at Government House to an audience of government officials, invited guest, media, and sponsors.
Slated for July 31st, the annual queen show will celebrate its 60th production under the theme:
‘Celebrating 60 years of Vibrancy, Talent and Culture’ at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (Carnival City) beginning at 8pm.
Addressing attendees at the media launch, 2023 Chairman of the project Janisha Jacobs said, “This year is one of great significance to the Jaycees Queen Show Committee and by extension JCI Antigua as we commemorate 60 beautiful years of empowerment through pageantry, celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of this, our organization’s Flagship Project. As the world recognizes International Women’s Day today, the committee takes this opportunity to reaffirm its mission of providing a platform that empowers women as we honour the queens of the past and aspire to inspire young ladies to embrace the power that lies within them.”
The pageant will see its usual five segments including Opening number, Swimwear, Talent, Evening Wear, and Interview along with its usual high energy entertainment line up and some new additions to the patron experience for the pageant’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.
“This, year promises to be one of glitz and glamour as we epitomize beauty through elegance, grace, and sophistication. We endeavour to reinvigorate the heir of opulence and poise associated with pageantry and invite all our guests to join us, dressed to impress as we strut the red carpet and celebrate in grand style. We have so much in store for you all, many new and exciting features as well as traditional aspects that we have all come to love and look forward to. This year’s show will be one to remember. So, be sure to put the date in your calendars and keep an ear to the ground for when tickets go on sale.” Chairman Janisha added.
Minister of Education, Creative Industries and Innovation Daryl Matthew commended the young people organization for their consistent delivery of the Jaycees Queen Show pageant over the years. “The pageant has been the leading standard of pageantry in Antigua and Barbuda over the years and there is no doubt that JCI Antigua will continue to raise the bar within this area as the years progress.”
Sharing the sentiments of the Creative Industries Minister – JCI Antigua President Laurel Jonas added, “There are only two pageants that have existed consistently longer than Jaycees Queen Show and those are Miss World and Miss Universe. We are very proud of this accomplishment and extend gratitude to our members past and present, sponsors and contributors over the last
59 years. For over 59 years, our members have planned and executed a show that empowers women and unifies the Caribbean and America.
Following the short ceremony at Government House – the Jaycees Queen Show Chairman along with Deputy Chairman Derrica Watson, JCI President Laurel Jonas, reigning Jaycees Queen Nekirah Nicholls and the Minister of Creative Industries, unveiled the official artwork and banner for the staging of this year’s show that was designed by Nigel Francis of Takumi Media.
The reigning Jaycees Queen who hails from the island of Saint Kitts and Nevis was happy to be on island for the media launch and said, “Pageantry is so much more than a beauty contest, it is an avenue where so many women across the world have been able to build their self-image and confidence, tap into their potential, gain an avenue of advocacy for worthwhile causes and form corporate and social connections through networking that have been instrumental in their professional and personal development.” During her arrival on island, Nichols engaged the local community by hosting courtesy calls at several secondary schools this week and also led an empowering and engaging session in financial literacy and management for members of the organization at the Villa Poly-Clinic.
