WICNEWS: Antigua: Famous Travel Guidebook Publisher and Global Travel Authority – Lonely Planet has made an announcement about the ‘8 best places to visit in the Caribbean’ list for 2023. In the list, the island nation of Antigua has bagged the top position for being one of its best places to visit for beaches, while The Pitons of Saint Lucia secured the second position for being best in hiking.

The eight Best Places to visit in the Caribbean, as stated by Lonely Planet, are as follows:

  • Antigua (Best for beaches)
  • The Pitons – Saint Lucia (Best for hiking)
  • Habana Vieja – Cuba (Best old town)
  • Bonaire Marine Park (Best for snorkelling)
  • The Grenadines (Best for sailing)
  • Inagua in The Bahamas (Best for wildlife lovers)
  • Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic (Best for families)
  • San Juan in Puerto Rico (Best for partying)

Antigua is home to 365 beautiful beaches. That’s one beach to explore every day of the year. Antigua provides a sweet escape, a destination that encourages visitors to swim, relax, and adventure the great outdoors. There is no shortage of things to do and other attractions on this beautiful sunny island.

In its recent list, Lonely Planet has highlighted that boasting a beach for each day of the year, the low-lying island of Antigua in the Leeward Islands has many postcard-perfect beaches, with coral reefs just a flipper-kick from shore.

It added, “While depending on where you are, the hue shifts from brilliant white via rose gold to cotton-candy pink. Choose between a beach with vibrant bars blaring out soca tunes or a near-deserted strip of sand where it will be just you & the odd pelican diving for fish. If you want to join picnicking locals, visit the Jolly beach on the west coast; for solitude, one can try Half Moon Bay in the southeast, & for tree-shaded golden sands, one can go to Pigeon Beach located on the edge of Falmouth Harbor.”

Antigua has 366 beaches and is home to the “world’s most romantic resort”. Antigua is a unique island because while it DOES have many all-inclusive resorts, it only has 2 “chain” resorts. The rest are all boutique-style, intimate properties. Some don’t have TVs in the hotel rooms. Some have many steps to take down to the beaches. One resort is home to the best restaurant in the Caribbean. Some resorts offer villas, and many offer private plunge pools. There are family-friendly and adult-only options.

In its feature, Lonely Planet ranked The Pitons of Saint Lucia in the second position and stated that it is best for hiking. It said that these iconic twin peaks are Saint Lucia’s most photographed attraction, which is not surprising, as they tower over half a mile above sea level and could be viewed from as far north as the capital Castries.

Lonely Planet added that the Gros Piton, the largest of the peaks, is the one to scale as Petit Piton has near-vertical slabs, due to which climbing is restricted.

Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island nation with a pair of dramatically tipped mountains, the Pitons, on its west coast. Its coast is home to volcanic beaches, luxury resorts, reef-diving sites and fishing villages.

The island nation is the perfect blend of powerful landscapes of magnificent verdant rainforests, with spectacular coastal beauty presenting a Caribbean island with a burst of natural splendour at every turn. With its gorgeous palm-fringed beaches, miles of unspoiled rainforest, majestic mountains, refreshing waterfalls, breath-taking vistas and warm, inviting people, Saint Lucia offers a wealth of awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime experiences which are sure to impress the most seasoned traveller.
