REAL NEWS-The people of Antigua and Barbuda are not feeling safe, especially after the murders of a Golden Grove couple on Wednesday, July 20, says the Chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP), D. Gisele Isaac.
Isaac notes that while locals are experiencing a strong sense of insecurity, the Police Force has deployed six officers to the Regional Security Services (RSS) to assist another Caribbean country – St. Lucia – with its escalating crime rate.
She says, too, that Minister Lennox Weston recently boasted that his Administration has not sought outside assistance – such as the Royal Canadian Mounties – like the UPP did to help curb the crime situation. However, Isaac says, help is needed, and this view is being expressed by other nationals.
Isaac says that Antigua and Barbuda does not feel as safe as it once was; and at this time, as Carnival festivities are underway, the rise in crime will prevent persons from going out.
Ironically, Prime Minister Gaston Browne recently boasted in Parliament that crime is low.
However, only last weekend, the UPP St. George Candidate, Algernon “Serpent” Watts, commented that robberies, especially, are on the increase. However, he said, the Police appear to be downplaying the situation, because it might reflect on the Administration’s handling of the economy and the deepening poverty.

It’s very interesting that there has been no Statement by the AG on the double murder. This is an uncommon occurrence and this place is getting scary. Too many guns on the streets. We need to get to the bottom of this ASAP.
In UPP time in power – a woman was shot in the head high day-time at a store in Heritage Quey while a Cruise Ship was docked at the port tourist in town .. the shooter was never CAUGHT , no one was ever ARRESTED nor Question.
A Police man Child was Slatered in Botanical Gardens and no one was ever Prosecuted for that crime..

We have to seek to make antigua feel a bit safer. Unemployment, coupled with apathy to work, coupled with cannabis addiction has caused the mantra ‘staysafe’ used during covid, to continue regarding personal safety. We are really seeing a gloomy picture where those who dont have, mercilessly take from those who do. And social inequity continues mercilessly because of political affiliation. While everyone grapples with inflation, poor governance and the fallout (financial mental physical) of covid.

But that aside, have we forgotten what the crime rate was during the UPP term in office? Need we go through memory lane for that. Girl shot in the head broad day light at Heritage Quay in a shop. The case was never solved. Many women were raped in their homes. Even Old woman got raped. And the list goes on and on and on. These UPP people need to stop pretending as if their term in office things were so good. If it was you guys and girls would have never been voted out so badly.
Instead of the criminals going after the big criminals like the PM and AG, they going after innocent people. Hope they come to my place and try it. I am ready and willing to kill whoever comes on my property to harm anyone in the household or steal.

They give you the stats just as they are. Who don’t want to believe them because of their own political agenda So be it. But don’t make assumptions that the police are lying. That’s so inappropriate and downright low
