  1. Mr. Minister, I feel really sorry that u have now inherited the magnitude of bullshit that u now have to deal with from the former laid back waste of timers. Your legacy is to TRY……and I dare say TRY your best to fix this eyesore that your former colleagues have given you. Do it and do it SOON. We DO NOT want this to carry on much longer as it is a great inconvenience for many.

  2. The teachers who were not upgraded only speaks the fact that ministry continues to poor clerical upkeep. Every time you request information from the ministry, a request always comes out about information that they should already have. The same bargaining agreement that the government used as part of their campaign. 3 months later after elections, it is only now going to cabinet. What do you take people for fools. The ministry is painting a picture that they have been doing what they should all along when they know that have only gotten this far due to high pressure from teachers. The governments in Antigua continues to make bad faith proposals with the union and expect teachers to stand idly by. These issues upgrade should not continue to happen because the ministry know when teachers go off to study, yet after 2-4 years of study and you return to the classroom, they act oblivious and refuse to upgrade teachers until the union steps in. At which point, many teachers would have been back in the system somewhere between 5 – 10 yrs. Regardless of who is in power, this nonsense needs to stop.

  3. Mr Prime Minister my child is suffering, her education is key to her. You and none of your comrades have to worry about your child/children education because you can afford private school, i cannot. Pay the damn teachers and give them what they ask for is that so hard to do after how many years now come on man. ALP JUST SICKENING NOW

  4. Fellow readers please understand that the ministry of Education has two separate departments so to speak. Whose that are education officers/ past teachers. If ask to vote by secret ballot would vote overwhelmingly for the teachers. They deal with education, curriculum, exams and evaluation- pure education. Their boss is the director of education.
Then there is the PS what handles the Administration side of things. They are primarily in charge of all these areas of concern that are going on. In fact the PS is even responsible for the upgrade of the education officers salaries and in recent times prevented them from getting an upgrade. All salaries / payments goes through the administration side / the PS.
The security of the schools are the responsibility of the PS/ ministry of works.
The minister is the policy maker and the balance of power on both sides. He should be the one that pulls the education side and administration to complete the ministry of education.
The Director of education although cannot be held responsible. He should be looking out for his teachers and agitating for their well being. Which should include the working environment and working conditions.
So the blame for this fiasco should fall on the Minister and the PS mostly and to a far lesser extent the director of education.

  5. Continue- this is true to almost every ministry.
Your have the technicians and you have the administrative side. The PS is the chief administrator and handles all financial matters. The directors handles the technical side. The director of PWD handles works – normally an engineer. The director of education handles technical staff- normally a past educator, in this case Browne was elevated from being the principal of Grammar school and before him Mrs.Pringle and before her Vincent Benjamín. At PWD Now Crump an engineer and before him Hanley and on and on. Same thing at agriculture the Director of agriculture is a technician and handles technical matters. The PS handles all Administrative aspects.
In all these ministers the PS works close with the ministers. Advises the ministers on financial matters. No payments are made without the PS’s involvement. The PS’s should have been dealing with all upgrades in a timely manner working through establishment- establishment has to approve all upgrade. We need to allow the system to work as designed.
