Antigua and Barbuda: Browne cites poll showing ABLP with double-digit lead over UPP
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says new polling data shows the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) holding a significant lead over the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP), pointing to what he described as a decisive shift in voter support ahead of an expected general election.
Speaking on Pointe FM on Saturday, Browne said the poll places the ABLP at 49% support compared to 26% for the UPP, a margin of roughly 23 percentage points.
He also referenced personal approval figures, stating that his support stands at 59%, while Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle is at 15%.
Browne argued that the results reflect public confidence in his administration and skepticism about the opposition’s readiness to govern.
“These polls demonstrate that they do not see Pringle as leadership material,” Browne said, adding that voters prefer “safe and secure hands” to manage the country amid global uncertainty.
The prime minister pointed to what he described as a widening gap between the two parties, noting that the ABLP is up 13 percentage points while the UPP has declined by 9 points.
“That’s a 22-point swing,” Browne said, arguing that such a shift could put all UPP-held seats on Antigua within reach for the ruling party.
He further claimed that polling conducted for both parties—by regional pollsters Peter Wickham and Don Anderson—produced similar findings, suggesting consistency across surveys.
Browne also used the poll results to criticise the opposition’s leadership, suggesting internal dissatisfaction within the UPP and raising the possibility of a leadership challenge.
The UPP has not publicly responded to the claims.

UPP DONE , FINISHED and out of control. Pringle is under lots of stress., that’s the reason for His STUPID behavior in Parliament yesterday. Poor Fellow.
Look at the reading of the polls. How the hell can UPP go forward with Him in the upcoming election. He should be booted out.
The problem with the UPP party is, leadership. Mr Pringle is an ok guy but, he lacks that leadership quality. Somebody needs to take the fight to Gassy Dread. This is not about personality, it’s about party leadership and country. UPP will not win an election with all that bickering and inside confusion. Pringle is being advice by certain so-called hierarchy and the party will suffer if he does not allow common sense to prevail. A word to the wise 🦉!

You advised Senator Colin Browne to read a letter of apology which you received from Someone who DEFAMED you on the radio. Hon. Gaston Browne I heard the person on the who defamed you over and over. He continued after He received warning from your Lawyer.

For all I know even though Gaston has use enormous amount of state funds to a whole lot a people to surround him and as the ventriloquist and casting a state capture over the civil servants and police and judiciary, the poles are saying if the hadeeds and PLH Oppenheimer land thieves over in Barbuda and jumby bay and mill reef don’t fund the ALP well, they will lose the election and white privilege promoted by Gaston brown with buffer zone will be eroded.
