A preliminary list of buildings to be utilized as public shelters this year has been published.
The 42 structures, which spread throughout the 17 disaster districts around the island, were inspected by the Ministry of Works and have been recommended for use.
The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) will ensure that all the facilities are provided with adequate hand-washing, sanitizing and cleaning supplies in line with Covid guidelines.
All the shelters are managed by a team that works closely with the District Disaster Coordinator who volunteers on behalf of NODS.
NODS continues to advise that sheltering with family and friends should be the first option and that public shelters should be the last resort.
If going to a shelter, individuals should walk with their emergency supplies to include food, water, searchlight, baby food and supplies if required, hand-sanitiser, mask, important documents, blanket or some other bedding, and other personal items.
