Lions Club Elects New Executive

The Antigua Lions Club recently held their installation ceremony on Saturday 29th June, 2019 7:30p.m. at the newly opened Royalton Hotel for incoming officers. Lion Franklin Maynard was elected as the club president for 2019/2020 Maynard, has been an active member of the Antigua Lions Club for the past twenty-one (21) years.

 

Lion Leandra Lewis was elected to serve as the club secretary, the second time around. The club’s vice-presidents are Lion Desiree Edwards and Lion David Matthias.

 

Lion Franklin, Club President, theme is Building On A Foundation Of Good Service. He statedI chose this theme to celebrate the achievements of our past members and to challenge us to Raise our standards.

 

Out going President Lion Davidson Charles presented awards in the following areas, Committee Chairperson award, 100% awards, Board Members recognition, and Overall Performance awards.

 

The Lion of year award went to Alan Hosam an active member for over seven years.

 

Fours Lions received Melvin Jones Fellowship Recognition, Lion Desiree Edwards, Lion Reginald Peterson, Lion Kim Joseph and Lion Alan Hosam.

 

Lion Leslie Ephraim PMJF District Governor conferred on Lion Leslie Salmon MJF the Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship Recognition.

 

Since the club’s chartering in 1968 its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as building bus shed, park benches, a computer lab, repairing homes. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to Prostate Screening, Breast Cancer Screening, Eye Screening in all Government Primary Schools, Educational Bursary Project, Hot Meal Distribution, Clarevue Hospital Visits, assisting fire victims, medical financial assistance.

 

Our continued efforts to assist the young people in our communities by way of training and leadership, through our Omega Leo Club and Alpha Leo Clubs members gain from the experiences.

 

The Antigua Lions Club has (60) members and meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at the Lions Den, Cross Street.

Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
