She also explained that banks use the opportunity to educate customers about various financial concepts, like how to manage debt. “Debt is a stepping stone. It’s when you don’t manage debt that it becomes a millstone around your neck. It starts with setting clear financial goals,” Gilkes said.

Gilkes explained that during the pandemic, customers had limited access to the bank and so they had to rely on alternate delivery channels like the ATM, on-line bill payment or peer-to-peer money transfers. No need to wait on line. ECAB encourages customers to use, and become familiar with, various banking interactive tools, practical strategies, and more — all designed to help increase financial literacy and help customers reach their financial goals.
