An eight-year-old boy tragically lost his life in Suriname after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.

The incident occurred at the sport centrum on Marowijnestraat in Paramaribo.

When the lightning struck, the boy fell to the ground, and despite the attempts of bystanders to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead by a doctor shortly after the incident.

Investigations into the incident are currently underway.

Lightning strikes are a leading cause of storm-related fatalities in various parts of the world, including the United States.

Medical experts have highlighted that a lightning strike can cause cardiac arrest and may lead to delayed death, even if the person is initially resuscitated but has suffered irreversible brain damage.
