ONE THOUGHT OR TWO
Congratulations on your 104 years and your sister’s 101 years of Excellence! This Is surely the manifestation of good genes and happy, active lives full of love!
Respect and honor ‘Mama Veda’ (SGOE), Senior Grandparent Order of Excellence!
Our venerable, noble, native Centenarians, ancestors of our heroic, enslaved Africans had few and no choices within the economic and education systems of colonialism and slavery to earn a living: “Washing, cleaning, working in the canefield and picking cotton.”
Their labor produced the economic wealth and cultural benfits of our colonizers.
Our Centenarians survived by practicing the fundamental economic principle: “Eat a little, save a little, spend a little.”
And spiritually, they internalized hope of a better life, faith, through religion.
Now our Centenarians ask the youths: “What’s in your hand?” The answer is cell phone – smartphone, iPhone, tablet – a computer! (without confession of guns, items used as weapons to destroy others and themselves). The electronic device is loaded with software applications.
Are they learning Computer Science; Coding; STEM subjects? STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. Are they learning Economics; Finance; Business subjects – Bookkeeping; financial/ forensic Accounting; Entrepreneurship; creative Arts; Caribbean History?
Think about this: Our government(s) announce annual education budgets(expend?) of thousands of dollars that include traditional – teacher instructions. Our students leave the Public Schools after fifteen (15) years without knowledge and skills to earn a living and start a business.
The students in the Public Schools get low test scores on standardized exams!
It’s obvious that the education system is not working!
If we value highly education to drive our economic and social development for growth, then it’s time for a radical change in our education system!
Why not invest heavily in teachers’ development in STEM? Why not use simulators in the classrooms for teaching labs and STEM?
The students will not blow up the building or injure themselves!
“All knowledge in the world belongs to everybody in the world.”
If we don’t commit now to radical change, we face the consequences from the known risk of creating a permanent underclass of youths, ‘a low class’ without knowledge and skills for college, career and life. They will be financially broke and broken as humans, arrogantly, verbally abused by the arrivistes.
Let us interact with humility, grace, good intentions!
Save our Humanity, Save our Youths, Save our Environment, Save our Soil!!!
Respect
To God be the glory! Congratulations on your milestone Ms Veda…hopefully, our youths can learn something from you🇦🇬🌺
