More than 100 LIAT employees in the region have not been paid in four months.
This was highlighted by Deputy General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union Dwaine Paul as he highlighted some of the impacts of COVID-19 on the workers of the aviation sector.
“The Government of Antigua, through the appointment Administrator, has indicated to the staff and the trade unions that they will be paying the staff 50 per cent of their wages for the month of July only,” Paul said
“There is no discussion to date with the administrator or from any of the other shareholders as to how those other outstanding wages will be paid to the LIAT workers.”
Paul also reveals that Barbados-based employees of the airline have now been laid off and are therefore able to claim unemployment.
He said government has pledged that measures put in place to mitigate the impact of the pandemic will be made available to all workers who operate from Barbados, including pilots and cabin crew who are not taxpayers or contributors to the national insurance scheme.

Can someone please tell this man to wear his mask properly. Especially if he is in a position of authority . He should be setting the standard and be seen to abiding by the law ! If they don’t why should we?
This man should cover his nose with his mask. Shame on him.
wow! [GASP] could it be that he [GASP] took a mask break [GASP] that we have been encouraged to do and not wear the mask Every. Single. Second. His mask does not have a filter, so he needs to take a “breather” from time to time.
LIAT workers must be happy to know that commenting on a mask-wearer is the main issue here.
